Hi Maire and Jmb67,

I'll be also in Rome this August! Prior to that I'll be in Lucca, Florence and Venice. I guess I'm a gluton for punishment! But as Jmb67 says better there than in NJ!!!

Last year my neighbors went to Rome the 2nd week in August and I was so envious because the weather there was a good 10 degrees cooler than in NJ! So you never know! I'm more bothered by the fact that a lot of the restaurants I want to go to will be closed.

You think that Rome is hot in August? You dont know what hot is until you live here in the Southwest..Today was over 98,but it was so humid that it felt like 105..
I take Rome anytime..even in August.. you could always go to Villa Borghese or stay near a fountain and drink the cool refreshing water or just enjoy the beauty of the city..

Keeping my fingers crossed that we have pleasant, beautiful weather in August Jmb and Cruise!

Yes, bothers me too that some of the restaurants and small shops will be closed, but I guess there will still be plenty open--I hope.

P.S. Jmb and Cruise, will you be in Italy on Tues., August 15? Do you know that it's a national holiday, and more things than usual will be closed. Also Monday the 14th, some things may be closed because it's a "bridge" day between Sunday and the holiday.

Hi Maire,

Yes , that's Ferragosto and I'll be in Lucca at the time attending a language school. The school will be closed that day ( I knew this before I registered) so I still have made no plans how to occupy myself. I imagine that trains and buses will be very busy that day but I'll probably try to do a day trip somewhere.

What about you? Will you be in Rome?

P.S. DD's professor, who is Italian, told her to avoid travel on the 14th - 16th, but we don't have much choice.

We will be in Italy this August too from the 8th through the 16th, and will be in Venice on the 14th & 15th.

Hopefully, we will still be able to enjoy even though 15th is a holiday.

Good luck with that Maire. It seems I'll be following your footsteps. On the 20th I'll be taking the train from Florence to Venice.

Hi Joe,

What is the name of your school? I'll be attending Koine language school in Lucca.

Cruiseluv,

The name of the school is Torre di Babele. I will be taking 4 hours group plus 2 hours private each day. I sure would like to hear your experience about Koine, I have heard good things about it on Slowtrav

Jmb,

For sure I'll post here and in Slowtrav when I come back. Please do the same! I hope this will not be the last time I go for language classes in Italy so I'll be very interested in finding out about your experience.

Good luck with it!
