Rome in 2 and a 1/2 days

Me and my sis will be in Rome from Friday till Monday 28 - 31 December 2007.

This is the plan at the moment.

Friday afternoon: Visit the Pantheon, visit Campo de Fiori, piazza Navona, Trevi fountain etc. Basically exploring the city after our long train ride.

Saturday: Doing Colloseum first thing in the morning (will have roma pass), then the Forum and in the afternoon the Capitoline museums

Sunday: Visit the vatican museum and St. Peters (last Sunday of the month is free)

We are leaving early Monday morning.

Thoughts?

Hi

Sounds like a plan but I guess the line for the Vatican museum can be quite long as it is free of charge. So make sure to get there very early....or later on in the day. Here is my Rome trip report with pictures and links: http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy.htm . I hope that you can find some useful info there :d

I think the itinerary sounds good. My husband and I spent 3 days in Rome last January, and all the sites were "doable" in that amount of time. The thing that helped the most was that there were no lines in the cold month of January.

Hi L,

Have you looked up Rome under "Destinations"?

((I))
PS: "My sister and I..."

The Roma Pass may be a waste of money for you. From what you have written, the only places that it would apply to are the Colosseum and Capitoline museums. Everything else you have mentioned is free.

Instead of the pass, get the 3 day metro card and purchase your Colosseum tickets at the Palatine hill. Tickets are available at the Via San Gregorio entrance or the forum entrance.

The Vatican Museums will be super packed on the 31st, because they are free. You might want to consider switching your Sat/Sun schedule. Contact the Vatican for one of their tours, far less expensive than commercial tours and no line at all.

Thanks Ira

English is my second language (Ek is eintlik afrikaans), so sometimes its a struggle to use the language so eloquent as the rest of the Fodorites...

Hoe gaan dit? Ek praat afrikaans. Well, actually I'm just kidding...but it sounds like a fun language and it would be great to learn it one day.

Yes, I'm married to a girl from Joburg...and as she is also a member on this forum I have to confirm that girls from SA are the greatest *hehe* :d
