We stayed at the Residenza Canali ai Coronari in 2004 and loved it. We had Room #1, and it is huge (by Rome standards) with a really large balcony. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The a/c in our room was like heaven, but the climb to the fourth floor (no elevator) after a day of walking in the hot Roman sun was not. The breakfasts were very good, and all of the people at the desk we met were very nice.
We thought the location was ideal for us. We took the bus to the Coliseum and to the Spanish Steps, but we walked everywhere else. We usually walked to the Vatican around sunset every day and then walked back and spent most evenings in Piazza Navona. Our hotel was in the perfect location for that.
