Rome Hotels : Please help in narrowing down our choices
We will be in Rome for 3 days late November and are now going to choose between the following 3 hotels:
1) Hotel Scalinata di Spagna 2) Residenza Canali ai Coronari 3) Hotel Teatro di Pompeo Would be grateful for your help in narrowing down the choices (all seem to have great reviews on Tripadvisor, making the choice even more difficult) |
Hi Ahmedhaff, I'm Italian and I was in Rome many times. I don't know the three hotels but I can suggest you this: if they're pretty at the same level choose the one closest to your main destinations in town. The Rome traffic is terrible, public transport is appalling and taxis aren't always imemdiately present at your call. So, being close to the place you want to go to could allow you to walk (and if you go on buses or take the metro mind your wallet, don't forget :-))))))

Thanks Lapacenelmondo,
The hotels are similar (in terms of stars, size and reviews etc.) - the first one is close to the Spanish Steps and the other two close to Piazza Navona. We're planning on the ususal sights - have booked a 3 hour tour of the Vatican and a 4 hour tour of Ancirent Rome. Other than that, we'll just stroll sround and sightsee. |
Pick the one near Pza Navona. It will likely be cold and that walk back to Sp Steps after dinner can get quite frosty.

Hello!
I too vote for the hotel near Piazza Navona; we rented an apt in this area, and absolutely loved the location -- very central to everything we wanted to do. Best of luck and Happy Travels! :-) |
I like #2 and #3 - both have good locations.
#2 is very small (a friend just returned and couldn't say enough good things about it. #3 has more of the services of a "real hotel" (like elevators). |
I stayed with my family at Canali ai Coronari. I didn't care for the quality of our rooms and found it quite noisy. The location could not be beat however.
If you will enter the name of the hotel in the search field you will see a lot of comments. There are also comments on tripadvisor.com |
We stayed at Teatro di Pompeo at the end of October and found it to be decent - clean, good breakfast, someone always at the front desk and great location. We wouldn't go back to this hotel but it's solid and we didn't regret staying there.

Butter, why wouldn't you go back?
|
Thanks all,
We've decided to stay at Residenza Canali ai Coronari. Will report on our return. |
Stefano is the most normal of the staff at Res. Canali, try to deal with him. The ladies are strange, unless you have a man to butter them up you will be at a disadvantge.
|
Thanks for the tip SeaUrchin,
By the way, know of any good restaurants next to the hotel - we will likely arrive at the hotel around lunch time. |
I'll top my trip report which has restaurants in the area, if I can find it.

willtravel,
I wouldn't go back because there are too many other hotels in Rome of the same class/price/location/basic amenities and considering Teatro wasn't really a standout, I would want to try another place for my next visit. Hope this helps. |
