Rome Hotels - Please Advise!
 

Hi, <BR>I am trying to select a hotel in Rome to stay in this summer, and would love if you can help me narrow some of the choices down with your recommendations. I'd like a safe part of town near cafes, restaraunts, shops etc since I want to do less sightseeing this time around and experience Roman life more <BR>(I know, that doesnt really narrow it down much). I will be taking trips out to Florence, Naples and possibly Siena as well so proximity to a train station might help too! The hotels are: <BR> <BR>Cavalieri Hilton <BR>Excelsior <BR>Quirinale <BR>Savoy Roma <BR>Forum <BR>Colonna Palace <BR>Portamaggiore <BR>Center <BR> <BR>Thanks in advance for your help! <BR> <BR>Tonia <BR>

Tonia: <BR>Stayed at the Crowne Plaza Minerva last year and it is highly recommended! Very posh, beautiful rooms, the best central location to every direction in Rome, a quaint location in a small square with plenty of shops and restaurants and small streets, quiet. Rates were good too because it is part of the Holiday Inn chain and has deals and discounts. I would stay there over any place near the Spanish Steps which is noisy and not as central. <BR> Paul

I have stayed at Quirinale and would recommend it. Also if you plan on taking a lot of day trips and want to be near the train station, then Quirinale is also a good bet.

Haven't used any of them. Everything else being equal I would pick the Colonna Palace for its location.<BR>Paulo<BR>

I stayed at the Colonna Palace last February with an Alitalia package and loved it. The location is fabulous--it's on the same very large automobile-free piazza as the Chamber of Deputies; five minutes from the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Fontana di Trevi, etc. The area couldn't be any safer and convenient to dozens of restaurants and cafes. The hotel is an older 4-star with a very sedate and elegant lobby. It has a wonderful roof terrace where breakfast is served in the warmer months. It seems to cater to a European clientele. I understand many of the rooms have recently been refurbished. The double I stayed in was in the older part of the hotel, but <BR>the twin-bedded room was a decent size, we looked out upon a beautiful view of San Ignazio, and the bathroom was very impressive. Closet space on the other hand, was limited. I'd go back there in an instant.

We spent on day and night at the Cavalieri Hilton last June. We are a family of four and Rome was on the last leg of our trip. It was gorgeous! We opted for the suite on the concierge level as we needed the space after being together for 10 days. The view out our balcony ( with reclining chairs) was of the city including the Vatican. This hotel sits high on a hill. The city lights were beautiful at night. <BR>The food was wonderful on our floor as well as in the restaurant. We will stay <BR>there when we go back. It was our first time in Rome and we only were able to stay the one night due to a death in our family. We had to fly back the next morning. <BR>Stay here, although do a better job than we did of verifying the room cost upon arrival(as opposed to what we thought we heard over the phone)! It also has a beautiful pool area. <BR>Enjoy yourselves!
