Rome Hotels-Help!
My best friend and I are going to Italy. Most of the trip is planned, but we need a hotel in Rome for 2 nights. We would like something that is walking distance to some of the sights, and that the area is safe for 2 women. We are booked at the Marriott Flora at over $500 a night, but would love something less expensive and more of an experience. We don't speak Italian, so need some English Any help would be much appreciated.

We liked the Santa Chiara very much. Great location!! Just around the corner from Pantheon, Navona and a short walk to Campo Fiori, but is itself on a narrow and quiet street. All very lively places in the evening where one can enjoy strolling, eating dinner, sitting in cafes and of course, gelato, and feels very safe as well.

Take a look at Ponte Sisto - near Campo Fiore and Trastevere. Loved it. Small rooms, great bathrooms. Good breakfasts, too.
|
Albergo Del Senato is great. Request a room with Pantheon view.

Hotel Modigliani.
|
Another vote for Albergo del Senato. We stayed there last July in one of the rooms that overlooks the Pantheon. Loved the hotel, and found it very central for exploring Rome.
|
Try Hotel Due Torri, Hotel Portoghesi, Albergo Cesari, Ponte Sisto (as mentioned) or Modigliani (as mentioned).

Another vote for Albergo del Senato. We stayed last September and loved it. Great location and exceptionally helpful staff.
Have a good trip! |
I would recommend Hotel Alimandi. A block from the entrance to the Vatican Museum, wonderful rooms, great breakfast, reasonable rates (I believe it was in the 120 Euro range a year and a half ago) and safe neighborhood. It's a subway stop or two from the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navonna, Trevi Fountain, and a little further to the Colosseum. Look up a Rick Steves guidebook on Rome - he has a good walking route which takes you past many of the attractions.

I second Hotel Ponte Sisto. Just make sure you get a room that does not face the street. It can get noisy.
The hotel is around the corner from Campo di Fiori, across the bridge from Trastevere and close to Largo Argentina. Can't wait to go back! Gail |
The Majestic Hotel is at 50 Via Veneto, and is a delightful 5-star hotel only a few blocks from the Spanish Steps.

We were happy with the Hotel Genio, at Piazza Navona.
