Rome Hotels

We like quaint hotels in central location. Any suggestions in Rome which are not terribly pricey?

The Hotel Venezia is beautifully furnished with 16th century antiques; it is reasonably priced, and the staff was very helpful. We arrived after a long train ride, tired and warm, and the porter suggested we sit in the lounge while he brought us an iced tea. Only good things to say about it.

Pesione Panda by the Spanish Steps (www.hotelpandaparadise.com). Very small rooms, but very clean and affordable.

Sorry. That should be Pensione Panda.

Everything in Italy has become ridiculously pricey. In spite of low inflation, hotels raise their rates 10-20% year-in and year. I'm fed up checking out places that are recommended, only to find that the rates have gone up 20% since last year.

Unless you are willing to spend a minumim of $200/night for a hotel or stay in a dive, forget Italy.

Hotel Rex on via Torino...they have web page search for them...very nice, very good rooms, good breakfast, 4 star so not real cheap, but worth the cost.
