Rome Hotel Under $180 USD
 

I'm looking for a hotel in Rome (3-4 star) for less than $180/night. I can find several online that fit this category but I'm looking for one that is convenient to the metro so we don't have to do too much "cabbing". Any help is appreciated.

mitchm, it might be helpful if you named the ones you found and people could give you feedback on them or the areas they're in.

Ruth's point is well-taken. Also, what time of year (month?) will you be visiting Rome?

I just looked at those date in Venere.com. FOr the Navona/Pantheon area (very convenient in the historic center) it will be tough to find a 3* in that range. Other areas may have more choices. CHeck Venere.com, you can sort by location, stars and price.

That is going to be hard - do you mean 180 USD - that's about euro 140. Here's a suggestion though I haven't been there since 2002. I am returning to Rome this May and due to the euro's strength I actually gave thought to booking again. It's the Hotel Parlamento - can't remember website, try parlamento.it. It's a two star that is often reviewed as "a two star hotel with four star quality". Rooms nice yet small, as we have usually found in Rome, nicely appointed marble bath, helpful staff especially concierge Georgio, thin walls a problem, OK breakfast but great cappucino,think there's a rooftop garden but didn't see because of late fall trip, near Spanish Steps.

This May I am booked at the Teatro di Pompeo near Campo di Fiori, euro 190. When dollar comes back up perhaps I can afford my old room at the Del Senato.

If I remember correctly they always stay at the Della Muse near Villa Borghese. This might work for you. I seem to remember their mention of using public transport from there. I like that area of Rome but would rather be a bit more central.

Another vote for Hotel Parlamento! We stayed there last year. A couple of years earlier we stayed at Hotel Des Artistes. the location for the Parlamento is perfect and the rooms are beautiful.

If you want a 3* or 4* hotel - it might fall short of what you're thinking of, although it is rated 3*. I thought it was quite nice and definitely pleasant.

It really is a great little hotel - nice pensione feel to it and location truly is wonderful. My first time there in 2000 I paid about $100 - but those were the good old lira days and of course strong dollar helped too.

Hi mitchm, from what I understand from an Italian friend who manages a hotel in Italy the number of stars has nothing to do with the beauty of the room etc. The government designates the number of stars according to the services the hotel supplies. Such as room service, a restaurant or at least a breakfast room etc. I can't remember what else at the moment.

Also (don't remember which stars) but think the two star hotels do not have to change the bed linens every night for the hotel guest that is staying for longer then one night if there is no need to.

I would not be worried about staying in a two star hotel if the location was good and especially if other travellers can recommend the hotel.

I was replying to last post about the Parlamento - don't know the Hotel Julia.

Alajan-I stayed at Hotel Parlamento some 10 years ago, and it IS a good little hotel in an excellent location. You do need to get past the dark entrance, and going up a flight of stairs to catch the elevator, but the rooms are clean, quite pleasant, with the basic amenities you need, such as an in-room safe, and TV. A few of the larger rooms have a small terrace.

Other than its central location, the best part about this hotel is its rooftop terrace where you can take breakfast when it's warm. (My personal feeling about Roma is, the rooftop terrace defines the authentic Roman experience-you need to stay somewhere where there is one if at all possible!)

A double now runs between US 80-150, so I too, think this is an excellent choice.

Mitchm, we just got back from Rome and spent 4 nights in the Daphne Veneto located at Piazza Barberini. We highly recommend this place. Metro very close. However, due to its excellant, central location, we walked everywhere and didn't need cabs. Rome is a great city to walk in, just be sure you have a very good and detailed map! We paid 144 E per nite cash (they give a 10% discount for cash) for a room with a bathroom in suite. Go to Trip Advisor under "B and Bs" and you'll find this place listed at or near the top and for very good reason. Super helpful proprietors and staff, great breakfast, and large rooms. Check out their website www.daphne-rome.com. You will note there are actually two properties comprising the Daphne Inn. One is the Daphne Veneto and the other is nearby but doesn't have a lift.

This is a popular question today... try the Nord Nuova Roma right near the Stazione Termini. It is a quick walk to the station which is very convenient to get around and has a cute rooftop cafe that we enjoyed nightcaps on.

Hi dcd, I am interested in your post in that you say that you were by the Piazza Barberini and consequently you could walk everywhere.

That is where I like to stay but so many others say that it is to far out of the way. Your hotel sounds wonderful and you got a good price for that area. I am glad you enjoyed your visit in Rome.
