Rome Hotel suggestions - REASONABLY PRICED

Hello

My boyfriend and I are traveling to Rome toward the end of summer and would love some hotel recommendations. It sounds like the areas near the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps are ideal. I know I'm asking a lot...but we'd love to stay somewhere that doesn't offer more than 140-150 Euro a night. Any secrets or hidden gems to share?

This thread contains some good recommendations for Rome hotels at about your price range. You will find others by typing "rome AND hotel AND budget" into the text box at the top of this page.

I recently e-mailed friends with suggestions for inexpensive hotels in Italy. Here is what I sent them for Rome:
"ROME: Is expensive for what you get, in a decent location. The Piazza Navona or Pantheon areas are ideal, if you can find availability in your price range there. If not, the Spanish Steps, or somewhere between the two would be my next choice. Here are sites for my short list:
http://www.banchivecchi115.com/ A new place that looks *great* for the rates.
http://www.hotelnavona.com/ Two hotels on this site w/cheap rates for the great locale.

Della Torre Argentina is within walking distance of the Pantheon, and is a very good place for the money. I found it on venere.com, and stayed there for 7 days last summer.

Thanks so much! I'm looking up all the suggestions as we speak.

We're also starting off our trip in Paris and ending there as well. I've reserved a hotel for the first 2 nights in the Latin Quarter. Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent hotel that is again, not too expensive, in Marais neighborhood?

Hotel Jean D'arc is in the Marais, in a great location and the rpice is right. Gets great feedback here, and I enjoyed my stay there in October.

They are often booked, however.

A ggod website to look for cheap hotels in many European cities (Rome and Paris included) is eurocheapo.com

Venere.com has good listings for both cities as well, and will give you rates for your total stay.

Ack, typos! That is "price" at the Hotel Jeanne D'Arc, and "good" website....

Depending on when you are traveling, you may need to pay more, or sacrifice charm or location in order to have the benefit of air conditioning. It was *hot* last summer, and I would have wanted it!
