I really liked the Residenza Farnese (06)68210980; great location, quiet, walk to everything. Also very reasonable (less than $150/nt.). Raphael is beautiful and a great location but I think more than you want to spend, also a bit noisy.

We stayed at the Hotel Pantheon in Nov. 2000 and loved it. Great location right by the Pantheon and between Piazza Navona and Trevi fountain. Beautiful quiet rooms, fantastic staff. Can't remember if non-smoking was available. They have a website (www.hotelpantheon.com).

I stayed at Hotel Nazionale in Montecitorio.(www.nazionaleamontecitorio.it). it´s fantastic and just three minutes by walk from Piazza Navona.

I stayed in Rome in the fall of 2000 at the Hotel Quirnale on the via Nazionale. It was a very nice 4 star with a good location to the metro and a decent breakfast. I believe that they have their own website. I'm going back to Rome this summer and will be staying, on two separate occasions at the Hotel Valadier and the Hotel Locarno, both near the Piazza de Popolo. They are both well reviewed.

I would recommend a small (5 bedroom) guest house near the Spanish Steps that will meet all your requirements. I stayed there in January & loved it. It's called Casa Howard. Their e-mail address is [email protected], & their ph# is 39.06.69.924555. Their fax# is 39.06.6794644. They do have a web site with nice photos of the rooms, but I think all the rooms do look even better in person.

Buon Viaggio,
BC

We stayed at the Colonna Palace and the Hotel Portoghesi. Although very different, they are in terrific locations near the Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Spanish Steps.

The location of these hotels added tremendously to our enjoyment of Rome. We enjoyed both...if you have any questions, write me.
