Rome Hotel Spanish Steps for under 200 euros
 

my friends are staying at The Eden Hotel...we would like a good mid-price hotel near them. We will not take advantage of amenities that "Big" Hotels offer

This is a bit more than 200 euro, but is considered more or less midrange for Rome. It was a favorite of my family:

How many nights? If 4 or more you might consider an apartment.

we are there for 3 nights

We really enjoyed staying at Hotel Suisse very near the Spanish Steps. It is perhaps more like a pensione. The staff were very helpful and the location wonderful.

The Hotel Modigliani (Via Purificazione) is very close to the Eden.
