ROME hotel recommendations...final 2
 

i've narrowed down my stay to these 2 hotels. both with balcony...

any opinions on these two?

many years ago we could hear lots of opera rehearsing into our Britannia window. it was pretty neat. don't know if the opera is still around the corner or not.

wondering, how was the hotel itself? how many years ago where you there? what is easy to go to all the sites from the britannia? was the hotel nice?

We stayed at the Britannia a couple of years ago strictly because we could fine nothing else available in Rome. It is OK, clean and adequate. The balconies don't have much of a view. The location is a bit far from most of the places you will want to be, near Termini. The Rome Opera is around the corner. It is categorized as a 4* but I was quite surprised at that when I saw the hotel. I think I would opt for the Hotel Regno because of the location although I am not familiar with the hotel. Much luck.

well, i think we were at the hotel about 8- 10 years ago. we have been back through rome twice and stayed closer in at hotel mozart by the spanish steps. the britannia had nice rooms and bathrooms and the rooms really are soundproof when you close the windows (so many city rooms are so noisy!), but the common areas aren't much and the location is not the best. i can't think of anything to look out on off a balcony there. (as i mentioned before i liked listening to the opera practice in the morning)you can walk easily to transportation ( buses, train station, etc.) for the sights, but we did need to walk a lot at night to find good restaurants, etc. i do not know where the other hotel is located so i can't help you on that.i also remember the desk clerk being very helpful. if i couldn't get closer in i would stay there depending on the price. did you check what people have to say on tripadvisor? good luck on your decision.

We stayed at the Regno about 3 years ago. Located on busy Via del Corso, for quiet try for an inside, courtyard facing room. Our balcony didn't have much view but the newly decorated room was very nice, had plenty of space and a lovely bathroom with full tub. Good location between Spanish Steps/Trevi and Pantheon. It's not overly charming, but because other hotels have been raising their prices, it now appears to be a good value.

What rate did you receive for Hotel Regno and what time of year are you traveling?

Well, we cancelled our room at the Regno, the communications was very bad. i was asking room and location questions, and with each question, someone else would reply. so when it came down to comfirming a room, i got attidude from the hotel. as soon as that happened,i figured it was the beginningof something bad...oh well, i am still looking for a room for 2 adults and 2 kids in a central area, maybe Piazza Navona or by the spanish steps...any suggestions? want to pay no more than 250 euros

did you try hotel mozart?

btw htere are lots of comments on britannia on tripadvisor

Have you checked Due Torri or Valadier?

i did try the mozart.. they suggested i take thier Vittoria Suite. i dont know what that is... do u?

try a search here on hotel mozart in rome (there are several in austria)...it sounds vaguely familiar....

i emailed Due Torri , they havent replied yet. we want 4 to a room. 2 adults and 2 kids(13 and 10).

the rate at the Regno was 230 euros. it was a good deal, i wish their respose was a little more positive.

What rate did Due Torri offer you? I happened to check a month ago for July and they offered the family room at 248 euro with continental breakfast (rack rate is 315 euro).

Due Torri hasnt replied yet. i'll post it as soon as i get a reply...any more ideas?

Have you heard about Hotel Tiziano which is near Piazza Navona? Reviews on tripadvisor.com are favorable.

Ok. Honestly, I haven't stayed at any of the hotels I recommended to you. I was thinking of Due Torri as I was thinking of visiting this year but we cannot go again.
I have stayed across the river near Via Cola di Rienzo, closer to the Vatican.

The hotel we stayed at was the Visconti Palace Hotel. It was good as we got an upgrade to a jr. suite. Nice size and nice bathroom with shower curtain and bidet. But the windows were single pane so it got a bit noisy on the streetside. That was the only drawback.

I did pass by their sister hotel, Hotel dei Mellini, a few blocks away. That one looked nice. Not sure if you want to try Hotel dei Mellini.
