Thin, we've stayed at the St. Regis Grand a couple of years ago. And if you're wanting fancy, I think you'll love this place. The rooms are gorgeous, with chandeliers on the ceilings and frescos painted on the walls.

Thank you, samsaf. I am sure we will enjoy our stay.

I have read that this hotel uses Hermes toiletries. I just love Hermes fragrances as I wear Terre d'Hermes myself.

Keith will be walking through the hotel looking for the ice machine and vending machines that sell Snickers bars and Doritos. :)

Cries, darling, ciao! I would have given a reco for the Russie, but no harm done. I can vouch for the fact the bar at the Excelsior is marvelous, as is the "garden bar" at the Russie.

Buon Viaggio,

Thanks, but we got a good rate of $450 a night at ths St. Regis Grand, which is $200 a night cheaper than the Hassler.

I am sure everthing will be fine.

I think I was at the garden bar at the Russie the last time I was in Rome. Was the hotel open in June of 1998?

Thin, I'm not sure if you've gone to Rome yet but if so, I'm curious to know how you liked the St. Regis Grand. I'll be there in November on business and then will extend my stay at the Albergo del Senato.

Personally, I think you would have fit right in at the Boscolo Aleph with their all black-clad staff and that full-length blow up picture in the elevator of Loren tossing a kettle of hot pasta in some poor man's face. The acrylic square sinks in the bathrooms might have given you pause, however.

BUT, since you, like myself, don't actually mind staying in what I was once told (here) is a section of the city which "is not the REAL Rome" I am sure you'll enjoy the St. Regis..lots of over-the-top decoration and why not? You certainly deserve it.

Have you tried Hotel Trinita dei Monti? Is located in Via Sistina, just few steps from Piazza di Spagna..However, ask for a room in the back..Via Sistina can be pretty busy at night, because it take you to Trinita dei Monti and Pincio..

How about Hotel Parlamento, is off Via del Corso, perfect place for sightseeing, walking distance to Piazza di Spagna, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Venezia..
I stayed there few times, is not fancy but very clean with spacious bathrooms.

We have already booked the St. Regis Grand.

We will be there for the first week of September, 2009.

Hotel Parlamento was considered, but it wasn't posh enough for me. After staying in a 2-star hotel in Paris this past November (a compromise to my social worker cousin), I want to be spoiled. ROFL!

Thanks for your help,
Thin

Wow, this is what I call a Posh hotel..Piazza Esedra is very close to Via XX settembre..You probably have visited Santa Maria Della Vittoria Church before..Bernini famous sculpture, The Ecstacy of Santa Teresa, is a amazing works of Art.

So did the St. Regis Grand meet your 300 euro limit? Or did you decide to splurge?

Cries_Van_Notebook Aug 4th, 2009 06:39 PM

Thanks, kismet.

We plan on going to see The Ecstasy of St. Terese.

And don't forget to send me a card with the special stamp you always choose :)

Cries_Van_Notebook Aug 4th, 2009 07:11 PM

I could send you a postcard from the Vatican Post Office.
:)

I will see if I can find a Prada or Fendi postcard. I think I sent you a Louis Vuitton postcard from Paris.

The countdown is on...3 weeks and we leave for Cousin Muffy's castle in Germany.

How is Pastis???

Your friend,
Thin
