Rome Hotel-off Via Veneto,good locale??
 

Hi, my travel Agent just booked the "julia hotel" for me, off Via Veneto, behind Piazza Barberini. Is this a good area, walking distance to the sights/shopping? Thanks for all replies! Dottie

Yes... I stayed on Via Veneto last year, and we were able to walk almost everywhere-- there is also a metro stop on via Veneto just off Piazza Barberini to get you anywhere thatmight be too far--- such as the Vatican--<BR>enjoy Roma!

I was only in Rome for 4 days but walked and saw alot and really believe the area we stayed in couldn't be beat i.e.around Pantheon. Stayed at Hotel Cesari which was about 2 blocks away.Perfect location - pedestrian-only zone in one direction; street with bus to everywhere about a block away.Warm, cozy feeling from that area.

We stayed in a lovely hotel off the Piazza Barberini (not on the Via Vento however) and found it to be a great location. Word of caution: there are a great many tourist type restaurants in that area charging too much for average food.

I can't imagine a worse place to be in "central" Rome. Whatever made the Via Veneto famous is long gone. It's fine for the high end convention hotels, but a long treck to the main attractions.

The Via Veneto area is not that interesting. We stayed in the Prati district (near to the Vatican) and that area was very quiet; however, it was central to us. The Piazza del Poppolo, Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps, and via del Corso were all within walking distance. I agree with xxx it's a bit out of the way.

This sounds like a travel agent. They will probably defend themselves and tell you it is "the place to be", but hasn't been since the days of La Dolce Vita. It is simply an area that was overbuilt with big hotels for rich Americans in the 1960's.

Hotel Veneto,on Via Campagna,two short blocks behind Hotel Excelsior and American Embassy both on the Veneto. Have stayed there many times over the years.Roof garden restaurant open in the Spring and summer.Owners very pleasant and accomodating, be sure to ask for a room away from the street noise. Lots of bus lines on the Veneto, look for #14, it goes to the Piazza Navona,perfect for food,wine and best of all for people watching also hotel is short walk to the Spanish Steps (highly over-rated) but great views from the top.In the other direction easy walking past the Embassy to the large piazza oops forgotten the name! and on to Termini.
