Rome hotel help please
 

My sister and her friend (early 60s, late 60s) will be in Rome in late September for a few days before starting a tour but do not want to stay at the tour hotel since it is a distance out of the city. These are the hotels that they are considering:Hotel Alimandi Vaticano, Del Consoli, Dei Mellini, and Cicerone. The only one she is familiar with is the Cicerone from many years ago. They want to spend time at the Vatican Museum and Borghese Gallery. They are walkers and do not mind using public transportation. Any comments about any of these hotels would be appreciated.. . neighborhood, noise, access to transportation, cleanliness,etc. Thank you all for your help.

we've stayed in several Roman hotels...but discovered The Modigliani four years ago...and have since been back ...recommended it to our friends and family..and here on the Forum...it seems to fit the criteria mentioned in your post....a quiet street, near public transportation, a class establishment...and loved as well by several forum members herein. I would guess that sis and friend will also take to it...

I have stayed at Cicerone, and more recently Dei Mellini. Actually, they are very close. I really liked Dei Mellini, specially their deluxe rooms. Very good size and comfortable. It is on a street that doesn't get that much traffic and is not noisy. We walked everywhere from there (except Colisseum area). There is a big bus hub nearby , Piazza Cavour

We also stayed at the Dei Mellini and found it convenient for getting to most places. They upgraded us to a suite and it was very nice. I would recommend it.

I stayed at the Santa Chiara hotel right behind the Pantheon. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

I almost always stay at the Residenza in Farnese, a lovely little boutique hotel just off the Piazza Farnese near Campo di' fiori.

It takes about 15 minutes to walk from there to the Vatican, along the Tiber. (The hotel is to one side of the French Embassy in the Palazzo Farnese)

And the little electric bus (I think the 116) bounces through the Piazza Farnese and runs right up through the centro storico to the Borghese gardens. It doesn't run quite to the door of the Galleria Borghese, but very close!

The hotel is a 4-star, but prices aren't too bad and it's very comfortable.

Last month my family and I stayed at Hotel Arcangelo (3 star-excellent)5 mins north of Castel Sant Angelo & 10 mins east of Vatican.
Situated in quiet street, with good shopping & restaurants nearby and Metro 10 minutes away also. Thoroughly recommended.
