Rome Hotel for two women in safe area
 

Hello,

My aunt and I will be traveling to Italy next May and are looking for a hotel in Rome with the following criteria:
Safe Area (where we could walk at night to a cafe or wine bar to sit and people watch)
Nice Location in Centro historico
Price Range (150-250 euro)

Also, if any include breakfast that would be a definite plus.

I suggest you SAN MICHELE A PORTA PIA in Via Messina, 15 tel. 06 44250595; double bed shoud be, if I can remember right and not wrong, 95 euro and, of course, breakfast is included and it is good enough really.
The place, very close to Porta Pia, is safe as safe, actually, can be a place in the historical center of Rome. Anyway, as there are several embassies, UK embassy among them, there are policemen day and night.

I loved staying at the Hotel Adriano. It is right in the heart of the city and within walking distance of everything including shops, restaurants and sights!

We enjoyed our rooms at <u>Residenza Antica Roma</u>, 170E for double or twin (and a 10E discount for cash pmt). There was a very good breakfast buffet included, and every floor has a little 'salon' hallway where you can gather for a nice comfortable sit to talk. It is on via del Tritone, near Piazza Barberini. We walked from there to Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps and Villa Borghese, also back from the Colosseum one day. We also used the buses that run in front of the hotel, or from a small square about 3 blocks away. It is about 2 blocks from Trevi Fountain, lots of cafes and restaurants there, as well as in the side streets off of via del Tritone. The hotel has a tiny elevator or lovely carpeted stairwell, nice bedding, minibars, TV, and a little bath amenities basket. I would definitely go there again.

Porta Pia is nowhere near where you want to be, it's way too far from the center and everything you will want to see.

I can't help with hotels, as I stay in an apartment, but do a search here for Piazza Navona Hotel or Pantheon Hotel and you'll get lots of suggestions for those areas. Right in the center, dozens of good restaurants and cafes, good bus connections.

If you are going to be in Rome for a week I would definitely recommend an apartment--much more available in your price range in the central historic area. Our family of three stayed in a 2 BR apartment near the Piazza Mattei this year for much less per night than you are planning to pay.

Many people on this forum recommend the Arco del Lauro (a bed and breakfast) which is just across the Isola Tiberina in Trastevere. The Hotel Arenula is in the ghetto area which is a fascinating part of the city, very centrally located.

Hotel Portoghesi is what you are looking It is easy walk go Piazza Novonna and everything else in centro.

I second the Hotel Portoghese suggestion.

We loved being right on Via di Coronari (full of antique shops and art galleries) and we were literally a stone's throw from Piazza Navona, which is a great place to get a cocktail after dinner and people-watch. There are tons of restaurants in the area, and it is very central to all the Centro Storico attractions.

I can highly recommend the Hotel Teatropace 33. The hotel is just off the Piazza Navonna and is very convenient to all major attraction. I loved the area and enjoyed walking through the Navonna to get “home” each nigh. I traveled to Rome alone and as a female I felt very safe in the hotel and in the area.

Halfway between Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona, the building faces the Villa Borghese which has been converted to condos for the very wealthy. Lots of police on street patrol in the immediate area. Busy with pedestrian traffic until late in the evening.

Please take the time to check out Empire Palace Hotel. It's in a very safe area, surrounded by several restaurants, food stands and shops. It's a Beautiful and Clean Hotel. In fact immaculate is more the word. Breakfast is included and the best we had in Italy. The Staff are very friendly and warm. They speak excellent English.
