rome hotel decisions

santa chiara hotel informs me that I can stay there for 3 nights...september 13-16 for a rate of 200 euro. this website has been favorable to this hotel, but before we book it, can you offer any other suggestions or reasons to support santa chiara or any other hotel?

we stayed at the spanish steps 2 years ago and liked the location. also like piazza navona.

casa howard also is recommended by the bookchic. any thoughts here?

Just got back from Rome - stayed at Fontanella Borghese - about halfway between Piazza Navona and the Spanish Steps - it was 191 Euros - great location, AC, wonderful help at the reception desk, small rooms but very comfortable. Rome was wonderful - enjoy.

these are my reasons for the Santa Chiara vote
Excellent location, better than the Spanish Steps in my opinion
helpful staff
Fully-equipped rooms with pleasant, if unremarkable, decor
good towels
Air conditioning
laundry service if you want it
Excellent breakfast

downside: some rooms are very small, ditto for some shower stall

I'd stay there again anytime, but that's not to say that there aren't many other good hotels in room, possibly even with similar services for less
money

scalinata di spagna is a nice choice as well as santa chiara

Kathie May 27th, 2002 07:35 PM

Please be aware that the Santa Chiara shuts down the A/C at midnight until 6am. If you don't mind sweltering during the night, go ahead and stay there.

Hey, other Santa Chiara veterans, is this true? We will be there next week!

hey dude

kathie has posted that incorrect information on the Santa Chiara before, and it has been refuted by me and others. I'm sorry if the a/c was not working properly on the occasion or in her room while she was there, but I can tell you that late last Sept I had plenty of a/c every night and day, enough so that I needed my blanket for sure. I do believe that they may shut the a/c system off for the season starting in October.

Others have made similar comments.

Hi there,
I live and work in Rome as a tour guide and thought I would try and answer your questions. I have just today spoken to a client who stayed at Santa Chiara and they thought it was excellent value for money and would most certainly stay there again. I have also had clients who liked Casa Howard a lot as well.
If you are still undecided and would like some other options, or need any other general information, please feel free to email me direct at [email protected] and I would be more than happy to help out. Regards Marianna

Is 200 Euros like almost $300 dollars CAD per night? Does anyone know of a hotel in Rome for less?

Yvette Jun 20th, 2002 07:48 AM

For the price point you are looking at I would highly recommend the hotel VIA SAN PIO. I just rated it, so I suggest you look at all of Fodor's ratings for the hotel. Good Luck!
