Rome hotel choice narrowed down to 3
 

My family (2 adults and 2 teenage children) are planning to spend Dec. 27th through January 3rd in Rome. We have narrowed the hotel choices down to 3: Hotel Cesari, Albergo Santa Chiara and Residenza Farnese. We have been to Rome before and like the location of these hotels . Since we will need 2 rooms, these 3 places seem to fit our budget best. We like a place with comfortable rooms, preferably firm matresses, quiet for sleeping at night and a friendly staff. Can anyone give me his/her views on which to choose, and if you have really enjoyed one of these places, which particular rooms to request? Grazie mille.

Enjoyed Cesari aplenty in 1999, and the reports seem to have remained consistently positive in recent times.

We stayed at the Santa Chiara in late May. Our room was pretty large and so was the Bathroom, but from looking at the floor plan, each room varies quite a bit in size. We had a balcony which really added to our enjoyment. The breakfast had a good variety (no hot food though). The location is very central. The staff seemed indifferent...not friendly but not mean. We would recommend the hotel, particularly for the price.

In March '01 we stayed in a quad at the Santa CHiara. It was a 2 room suite (not the larger apt. that they also offer) with one bathroom off the master bedroom. This bedroom face a street (I believe it was Via Argentina). WIth the windows closed noise was not a problem, but we were there during a hot spell and the a/c wasn't activitated yet. With the windows open, it was comforable temperature-wise but noisy. The twin room (for the kids, 2 twin beds) was facing inward with only a skylight type window and noise was not a problem. The beds and room size were comfortable, nothing huge but adequate. The shower stall (no bath) was particularly small. I loved the location and the breakfast was quite ample.

We stayed at the Albergo Cesari this past May based on reviews and comments on this board. The hotel couldn't have been at a better location. It is charming, hotel staff very friendly and helpful and you can walk everywhere. Would highly recommend it. Am not familiar with the other hotels. Enjoy your trip.

We stayed at the Santa Chiara in January 04 and thought that the location and the price were very good. Most of the hotels I've stayed in offer only cold buffets for breakfast. This was very good. Procuitto, salami, cheeses, cereals etc. good quality. we would stay there again as it was also within walking distance of the sights.

My thanks to all who have replied. It seems that Albergos Cesari and Santa Chiara are quite popular and well regarded. I have heard that Residenza Farnese is also quite lovely with a very friendly and helpful owner, but it is so hard finding concrete information about it. Now, we will have to see if we can get reservations at any of these places.

Please, do not pass on La Residenza. It is located near Villa Borghese and it is first class. On our last trip, we stayed at the Hotel Mediterraneo near the main train station and it was very nice. Walter at the Medierraneo made the whole trip!

La Residenza near Borghese is different isn't it, than the Residenza Farnese near Campo dei Fiori?

Yes, they are two different establishments.

La Residenza is at Via Emilia 22 in the Via Veneto area, while Residenza Farnese is at Via del Mascherone 59 near Campo de Fiori.

I wish that Residenza Farnese had their own web site. The only one seems to be through Venere and I don't like going through other agencies. I like to go direclty to the hotel as I speak/write Italian and I like to establish a bit of a relationship when I am booking. I wonder why they don't have their own site? Shouldn't every hotel by now have their own site?

Thanks so much! I was beginning to believe they didn't have a site because I had done extensive searchs to no avial and I am pretty good with different ways to do searches. I find most things, but strangely, this site you passed me to, never came in the searches.
