Rome hotel

Can anyone recommend a good centrally located hotel in Rome? A retired couple, we need 3 nights in late April and our budget is around 200 Euros per night.

Hotel San Carlo is centrally located; easy walking, quiet. However, there are 5 floors and no elevator. We liked it quite a bit.

visit the website www.nyceRome.com and make a search in the Trevi Fountain or Pantheon area. The "Domus Julia" (Trevi Fountain) is beautiful.

I would recommend The Hotel San Carlo also, but disagree with the other poster on this thread about "no elevator". The hotel is actually in 3 buildings, and 2 of the 3 HAVE an elevator! If reserving there, please mention you need to stay in one of the buildings with an elevator, if that is the case, and they will take care of you.

We stayed at the Jolly Hotel Leonardo da Vinci in Via de' Gracchi and liked it a lot. It's not exactly in the center but within walking distance from both Vatican and all the attractions in the center. The Metro is a 3 min walk away, and there are several bus routes that stop just round the corner. The street is quiet, which is rare in the city of Rome, and in a good neighbourhood.

You might check a website like www.venere.com so that you can see the location on a map before you make a decision. Wherever you decide, have a great trip.

We stayed at the Domus Julia/Hotel Julia last May. It's close to the Spanish Steps, and at least 10 minutes' walk to Trevi Fountain. Here are my notes:

"Domus Julia is a great value and nice little hotel. It’s the apartment annex to the Hotel Julia, so you check in and have breakfast buffet at the hotel. It is a fine little place, in a great location, at a very reasonable price. We had a double/twin room, which was large enough by European standards (and is pictured on their website quite accurately). It was 170EUR, with a private bath, and including the breakfast buffet. We entered our room via a nice dining room/kitchen common area. There were two other units which shared that space, and I think they are larger apartments. They offer a 13EUR shuttle from the airport, which is a big cost-savings."
