Rome - Getting Around
 

Hello Everybody ,

Next week I will travel to Rome for the first time and need a few suggestions on getting around. What is easier buying transporation passes daily or can you buy a weekly pass? If so, how much?

We found that we walked most places, and only occasionally took the metro, but it also depends on where you're staying.

A weekly bus/metro pass is about 12 Euro and to me, worth it. It can be difficult to find a tobacco shop that has bus tickets when you want them. Many run out very quickly. The ticket machines at the metro stations are often out of order or there is a long line of people waiting to buy tickets. It is also a favorite hangout for pickpockets.

Jessy - For a one week stay I recommend you get the weekly CIS pass (Carta Integrata Settimanale).

This covers buses, trams and the metro and costs €16.00.

i agree with the other two posts. the bus is the way to go. i actually enjoyed walking alot also. you see more that way. have fun!

Also pick-up a "Roma Metro-Bus" map (5.5e) for the routes of the buses, tram and metro.
  The small bus map is easy to read and shows the major bus routes and numbers for getting around central tourist Rome.
  More detailed info and other routes are in the booklet and also a large Rome fold-out map.
  And the weekly ticket is now 16e, up from 12e. Regards, Walter

I have been to Rome three times so far, staying 5 nights twice and 4 nights once. I rode the metro once just to see what it was like and to say I did. I have been on maybe three busses in all those trips (other than taking a bus out of the city to Tivoli or somewhere else). If you are going to be in a central hotel you may seriously consider not doing any kind of pass or special ticket. In my case it would be a total waste of money. But then we like to walk.
By the way, among other places, we walked to the Vatican and to Trastevere numerous times from both the Spanish Steps area and the Piazza Navona area.
