rome, florence, venice, and ??
 

Hi,

I'm continuing to plan my honeymoon to Italy for the first time and I've booked the flights and our accomodations in Venice. We're flying into Rome on June 27th and flying out of Venice on July 11th. We're planning on staying in Venice from July 8th until we leave, but everything else is still up in the air.

I'm looking for help and suggestions for the time we arrive in Rome until we go to Venice. Should we spend time on the coast, or head to Lake Como, or spend more time in Tuscany? We definitely want to hit the main attractions in Rome, but would love to see the countryside of Tuscany. Then again, I'm sure staying along the coast would be fantastic as well. Am I looking to do too much in that short of time?

I'll know first hand in a couple weeks, but my uncle swears on the beauty of lake como. the amalfi coast was very nice, and i would highly recommend maybe a 2 night seclusion to ischiia at the following hotel:

i felt like royalty while i was there. i plan on bringing my girlfriend back some day. it was amazing.

One suggestion might be to go to Cinque Terre. It is 5 villages built on the side of mountains on the Italian Riviera. There's hiking, beaches and other outdoor activities. The walk from Riomaggiore to Manarola is known as the "Via dell' Amore" and there is wonderful restaurants there as well. Have a great trip.

thanks for the suggestion bradykp. how far is the albergoilmonestero from rome or from florence? is it easy to get to and would you go after rome or florence, knowing that we are ending our trip in venice?

It is your honeymoon...depending on whether you would like to relax and enjoy each other or see as much as possible...I would pick either Tuscany or Amalfi Coast...so if you are definitly going to Florence then do Tuscany...for a more romantic time in Tuscany maybe stay in a Tuscan town (Siena, San Gimignano) and take a day trip to Florence? (to take some time away from the city life)...

However, the Amalfi coast seems quite romantic and relaxing...

From my research, and the fact that it is your honeymoon I would say do 3 locations so you have time to concentrate on each other as well as enjoy your surroundings...

I agree with krisabug27. Besides Venice I feel that seeing as much as Tuscany would be great for a honeymoon trip.

I'd be inclined to stay in Rome and north of Rome - don't try to get down to the Amalfi Coast (as much as we loved Positano and Capri). If you want some beach time while on your honeymoon, I'd opt for a visit to Cinque Terre. Otherwise, focus on Venice, Florence, Tuscany hill town(s), Umbria possibly (Orvieto and Assisi are great) and Rome. Give yourself enough time in Rome - I'd say 4 days minimum.

If it were my honeymoon (that was ONLY 31 years ago), I'd spend 4 nights in Rome (maybe add one or two nights and do a daytrip to Orvieto and/or Assisi in Umbria), then train up to Florence for 3-4 nights (and do daytrips to San G., Siena), two nights in Cinque Terre, and then the rest of your time in Venice. And do NOT try to stay in too many different places - I think three hotels would be ideal, 4 at the most.

I'm sure others will pipe in with other opinions.
