Rome/Florence tours for people with less mobility?
Hello,
I am planning a trip To Italy for my mother, her friend, and my grandmother in May. They will be spending 5 nights in Florence followed by 4 nights in Rome. I know they are interested in doing tours (both within the two cities and day trips from Florence to small towns) but I am having a little trouble finding appropriate tours for them because my mother's friend has MS and as such tires easily and cannot drink (I think due to medication she takes for it). So bus tours to wineries are out, as are tours involving a lot of walking. Does anyone have any suggestions for tours/tour companies that would suit their needs? I know that some tour companies can personalize tours but those seem rather expensive. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Lucky you, Amanda.
A first-time poster who just happened to do the very thing for which you are looking.
When we were in Florence, we took the loop made by the no. 13 bus from the train station. It was a very pleasant 2 hr or so.
Bus routes and maps are at http://www.ataf.net/Default_EN.asp

Thanks for the Florence info, Ira. Yeah, I was kind of wondering about the first poster - he sounds suspiciously like someone promoting his own business, which I know happens around here sometimes.

Amanda - Here are some Rome tour companies:
http://www.romeguide.it/vastours/
http://www.appianline.it
http://www.carrani.com/gb/viaggi/tourindex.htm
http://www.romeguide.it/greenline/greenline_eng.htm
There are also the Hop-on/Hop-off tours such as 110, Ciao Roma, CSR ...
The Rome bus company ATAC now runs a number of easy-access buses and trams - if they wanted to 'do their own thing' at their own pace.
There is an easy-access minibus service around the centre which links several of the main sights:
- Piazza di Spagna - Piazza del Popolo - Piazza San Silvestro (- for the Trevi Fountain) - Piazza Venezia (- for Campidoglio/Forum) - Colosseum - San Giovanni in Laterano cathedral ...
You can find details and bus routes on:
http://www.atac.roma.it/
Hope this helps ...

... and for excursions from Florence try CafTours and Sita:
http://www.caftours.com/en/regtoursac.htm
http://www.sita-on-line.it/CentralSI...lSITA-IT.htm#5
Alternatively, places like Siena and Pisa are easily accessible by public transport too.
Hope this helps ...
