Rome/Florence OR Rome/Naples?
We are planning our first trip to Italy this October, 10 days, I'm debating btwn Rome and Florence/Tuscany or Rome and Naples/Amalfi Coast. Both seems lovely and different...any input would be appreciated.
Thanks! |
I haven't been to Naples, but we just got back from Rome/Florence/Venice and Florence was probably my favorite city. It's a beautiful city plus great museums. It's really easy to get around the city. I've heard the Amalfi Coast is great too, so you really can't go wrong!

Hi, 3 littlepeas! Most persons traveling to Italy find Florence enchanting, with many sights to see. Naples, on the other hand, has few sights to recommend it; it is best saved for a second or even third trip to Italy, after a person has seen Florence, Venice, Pisa, the hill towns of Tuscany, etc. Actually, while you are in Italy you CAN do the Amalfi Coast trip - - - as a long day trip from Rome; no need to even stay in Naples. Buon viaggio!

Hi 3,
Naples is a ver interesting and vibrant city. You can do 3 days there and then the Amalfi Coast for the rest of your stay. However, for a first timer I suggest 1. 5 nights in Florence (1 or 2 day trips), 4 nights in Venice 2. 2 nights in Venice, 4 nights in Florence (1 day drip), 3 nights in Rome, in that order. Is there a reason why have left Venice out of your plans? ((I)) |
No particular reason why I left out Venice other than We can't do everything in 10 days and I did not want to be running around for 10 days but rather enjoy and pace myself, that's why I'd prefer we unpack only twice and settle in a little more in each destination.

That's why I suggested Florence and Venice. :)
