Rome, Florence - museum, bus discount cards or passes available?
 

I am taking my family of 12 to Italy in March. Their ages range from twelve years - seventy-five. Since the dollar is not cooperating, I need every discount I can find. Museum and church entrance fees will add up quickly. Does anyone know of discount cards or passes available? What about bus passes? Thank you for any help.

I am awed at your organizational skills.

We will be in Rome in March as well. I have read several guidebooks and I know that there is a museum card-type thing in Rome that is a special combo-ticket. It costs 20 euro and covers the National Museum of Rome, Colosseum, Palatine Hill, Baths of Caracalla, Crypt Balbi, Museum of the Bath, and Palazzo Altemps. Basically you can see seven sights for the price of three, and its valid for 5 days.

That's the only one I know of. I have been looking for some Florence tickets but haven't found much yet. Good luck and happy planning!

tcreath - thank you, I will keep digging. Did you know individuals under the age of 18 and over 60 automatically enter sites such as the Vatican free?? Oh yes, EXCEPT Americans. It is some type of reciprocal agreement. UGH!!

In Rome, Fodors says
" A BIG tourist ticket, valid for one day on all public transport, costs EUR3.10. A weekly ticket (Settimanale, also known as CIS) costs EUR12.40 and can be purchased only at ATAC booths. "
Single tickets are about 0.75E

In Florence, you can buy single, double and quadruple tickets. You get about 10% discount if you buy the quad ticket.

A weekly bus pass is available, but the ATAF (Florence bus company) website is not operating, so I cn't tell you where or how to get it right now. However, we found that we only used the bus about three or four times in our 11 days. The tourist area is not that large.

I am not aware of any discount tickets for museums, etc. However, you might qualify as "Group".

We had a group of six last summer and were able to get dicounts on trains. I think 5 or more qualifies for the group discount.
