Rome: firs night stay near airport vs. in town?

Four of us are traveling to Rome: we fly in at 11 p.m. Friday, our guests at 7:40 a.m. Saturday. Although we'd like to get the lay of the land around our hotel (Hotel Giuliani) before our guests arrive, I imagine it would be easier (and cheaper) to just stay near the airport that first night. Any thoughts?

I would rec. going straight to your hotel because if they land at 7:40 they will get to the hotel between 9 and 9:30 at best and you can escort them into breakfast at the hotel. It would be no cheaper at the Hilton which is at the airport and too much hassle if you stay somewhere near the airport.

Hi kbrwriter, I agree with SeaUrchin except I do have a question.

You say the other two people are your guest. Do you feel like you have to be at the airport to meet them and escort them to the hotel in Rome? I thought maybe this is why you are considering staying at a hotel at or near the airport.

I agree with the other posters. Unless you feel like you need to lead your guests, I can think of any good reason to stay near the airport.

make that "can't think of any good reason"
