Rome Experts: Aqueducts
 

I found a write up about an Aqueduct park on the outshirts of Rome. Thought it might be a nice off-the-beaten-path kind of thing for a repeat traveler. Has any one ever done this or know of other good examples of aqueducts? How far out is it? Are there other sites to combine with this one?

Take the underground and get off at Giulio Agricola. Go straight to viale Giulio Agricola and you will see a large park which join the aqueducts to the Appian way. After an hour of stroll in the park with aqueducts, old roman villas and old towers then take the Viale Giulio Agricola and go to the Tuscolana road ... one of the shopping streets in Rome .

Degas. Look up Parco Regionale della Appia Antica. Very informative. We'll be staying close by end of May and I plan to do some hiking and exploring the area.

Hi Treesa, that is a great site. It has a map that shows several ways to get there via metro. Biking looks interesting.

You can also take the 'Archeobus Tour' to the Aqueduct Park'.
Archeobus now leaves from their ticket booth in front of Termini, it's the small bldg on the 1st bus island.
Archeobus isn't what they used to be (down-sized) but they still do that route.
You could take the Archeobus to the Catacombs and near-by ruins in the morning, hop back on and go to the Aqueduct Park.
They only stop for 10mins but you can stay and take a later bus back. Good place for a picnic also. Regards, Walter

I spent an afternoon on the Archeobus a couple of years ago and thought it was so much fun.If the weather's nice,it's a great way to do a little "daytrip" around the outskirts of Rome.

Small world, the guy who I "stole" this idea from saw my post on another site and gave me an update. Says its easy to do, takes about twenty minutes from most stations and the shopping is cheaper with way more locals.
