Rome connection time?
I arrive in Rome (FCO) at 12.25 p.m on an Emirates international flight. I want to book a connecting flight from Rome to Barcelona. What is the minimum time I should allow between flights? Might I have to change terminals?

Hi J,
I usually allow 2 hr between flights. If you have luggage, it could take an hour to get it before you have to go through passport control. Three hours would be safe. ((I)) |
On a recent trip into Rome it took 45min to pass through passport control (before baggage claim). Thinking the immigration wait would mean our bags were waiting was a false expectation. It took another 45min for the bags to appear on the carousel.
If you need to claim your bags and checkin for your 2nd flight (with it's own cut off time), do not count on 2hrs being enough time. I have not done connection, but the lines I waited in were for entry into Italy, while connections went a different way in the airport. The key I believe is to know if your bags are checked through to Barcelona, and if you need to check-in again. |
Since you are picking up your luggage and rechecking in, I would suggest minmum 3 hours also.
I found the Rome airport check in to be quite insane. We planned to be at the airport two hours prior but arrived with an hour and 40 minutes....almost missed our flight. The Lufthansa counter may be worse than the airline your flying but I wouldn't chance two hours or less. |
