Luna0100 - can you pass along the #? We will be in rome in 2 weeks and would love to see the lower level!! How much did it cost? How long? What did it include?

So far the Colosseum underground is not open after September 30th. I've been checking daily. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, I'll be in Rome in about 10 days myself.

I'm also taking the phone number with me to check once I'm in Italy.

I called the Colosseum today and was told to check back the middle of next week. They are expecting to have a decision from the archeological agency regarding whether they can extend the lower level tours past end of Sept.

I'll be in Rome November 9-12 and Walks of Italy is supposed to e-mail me to let me know if the tour will be available then. I will try the other vendors as well...thanks for the info.

OK, a poster at SlowTravel said that she heard that the Underground is open for October as of today. I used the link she gave me.

I just successfully booked an Underground tour for October through this website. You have to go into the section that says "Collect Onsite" to get to the listing that says Visita Guidata Sotterranei-Eng, to book the Underground tour in English. It looks like there are several times open in English for each day.

We just returned from Italy. We booked the underground/3rd tier tour. Well worth whatever you have to go through to book it. We made our reservation via telephone and returned to find our phone bill cost more than the tour. (oh well - still worth it) Had a very knowledgable Italian archeologist and we learned so much.

CPelk - I have clicked on the website you posted and gone to the "collect onsite" section but can't find anything that says Visita Guidata Sotterranei. Help? Thanks.

Cpelk Sep 24th, 2011 04:47 AM

After you click the Collect Onsite button you get a pop up page from Omniticket that says Select a day. After you select the day click on Confirm, then you get a list of the available tours for the day. You don't have to put in a credit card until the end, so you can go back and forth and look at what's available on different days.

When you do book you get a confirmation page with a number that you need to take with you for your tour.

I also got a e mail confirmation this morning.

Good luck.

After I click on "collect onsite" on ticketclic I can see the time slots for underground English tours in October. Dont know why you're not able to azzure.

The tickets are selling for 21.50 Euro-

I will not have any other pass so is this the cheapest ticket I can buy? Only in Rome for the day.

The Pierecci website quotes 9 Euro, if I purchase this ticket by phone do I have to buy another entrance fee to the colosseum?

I have visited the colosseum and roman forum before and thought I would be able to just do the underground tour alone.

Is this possible?

If you book the combined 21.50 euro ticket on the Pierecci website, do you still have to wait in line at the Forum? Or can you cut to the front like all the Roma Pass holders?
