Rome: clean inexpensive room for 3 people?

Hi,
Just got a great deal on a flight from Boston to Rome the week of school vacation.
We'll arive on Holy Saturday and leave the following Friday.
I'm hoping to find a clean, inexpensive room for 3 of us (two adults and a 16 year old)
I've stayed in the Trastevere section before and loved it. I hear a lot about the Piazza Navona area too.
Any ideas? I'd really like to keep it less than $!50 a night if possible.
Thanks for your help.
ps I'm hoping it won't be hard to find a place Easter weekend

I think you are asking for a lot. So what I'd do first is book something, anything, at this point, that is cancellable and then start looking for something better. Right now is about 3 weeks before your trip which is at an extremely busy time in Rome, and it's always busy anyway.

Start looking here: www.hotelscombined.com
There are lots of hotels recommended on this forum, but even in low season, a triple room at most of them is more than $150 USD per night. And most of those hotels are probably already booked, but it's worth a try, I suppose.

I agree with Will...Rome will be very busy and crowded at that time. Try this hotel, basic no frills, inexpensive by Rome's standards and in a great location. http://www.smeraldoroma.com

You may also want to check out apartments as you can get more for your money. Try:

www.sleepinitaly.com
www.realrome.com

Good luck.

We are a family living in Rome. American Professionals and often rent our apartment when we travel to help pay for the high cost in Europe. We live in Testaccio. If you are interested - check out our craigslist ad and drop me a line.

Petunia,
Thank you but unfortunately we will need a place April 11-17th

Yes, apartments might be a better bet for you during Easter. I'd call (not email) some of the agencies immediately since time is so short.

Also try at www.venere.com, putting in your dates and budget and unclick the box that says Online bookings only.

Has anybody ever heard of or stayed at Hotel Di Rienzo on Via Principe Amedeio 79/A?
I'm not sure if it is too close to the train station.
A triple would be 100 Euros a night.

$50 per person or per night????

I can't imagine finding something for $50/night for the three of you at Easter in Rome...I think last time we were in town around Easter, we paid about $200 - and it certainly was nothing to write home about! (and I wouldn't recommend it).

Sometimes, we've found deals outside the city - the Sheraton, Marriott, and Hilton hotels offer shuttles back and forth (maybe 20min?) - Four Points by Sheraton Roma West Hotel is only around 152Euro/night (206USD)

A 16yr old is considered an adult in Italy (for Hotel purposes)...so...you will need a triple room :-( It's a bummer...but most hotels charge for roll-away beds even for tiny children (I have an 8yr old and we usually have to pay for him - cots can be up to 150euro/night in Rome! even for kids under 12) We have had good luck though on Hotels.com and those type of sites...so...try there...and TripAdvisor to make sure it's "ok"...

but...I guess my point is that I really think you will need to up your budget a bit! (think about it...could you find a hotel for three in Boston or NY for $50/night (which, is only about 36Euros)??

Sorry, I just realized the typo.......that was supposed to read $150.00 a night.
I can tell already I'll have to pay more than that.
Keep the suggestions coming............thank you.
Last minute air fare special was great..........finding a hotel isn't so easy.

Thank you all for your help.
I'm waiting to hear from Hotel Smeraldorama and Hotel Portoghesi.
But in the meantime, I've reserved Hotel Fontanella Borghese at a rate of 180 Euros for the 3 of us. Any input?
Betty

Check out Patria Hotel.
My husband and our (then) 14 yr old daughter stayed there a couple of years ago.
It was clean, very centrally located, we walked everywhere and breakfast was included.
Only a few blocks walk to Termini.
