Rome - City Tour Only tours

We just arrived in Rome Monday, woo hoo! I'll post some more comments on our trip after we return, but for now I'm asking your advice on a tour company. Our hotel recommended City Tour Only for sightseeing trips. I've tried some web research for customer reviews, but the company name is so generic I'm having difficulty finding more than a few (mostly positive) comments. Has anyone here gone on a tour with them? We're comfortable seeing the sights in Rome on our own, but we're considering the full day tour of Naples & Pompeii with City Tour Only.

Thanks in advance!

Hotels recommend tours that they are getting a commission from on sales. They are never the good tours. I would ignore their advice.

Read Trip Advisor about Rome to find good, high quality walking tours that are also budget friendly.

Very easy to go to Naples and Pompeii on your own by train, although it will be a long day. If you really want a guide for Pompeii you can pick one up outside.

See seat61.com for info on train tickets in Italy, and the commuter train from Naples to Pompeii.

If you must have a tour, here are some options:

Viator gets reasonable reviews. Here's one that might work for you. Note that Mt Vesuvius is only during the summer.

Viator also offers this simple bus option to get you directly from Rome to Pompeii and back again

Walks of Italy is another well-regarded company. This tour does not visit Naples, but does get to the Amalfi Coast--a very long day.

One note -- Viator doesn't 'do' tours. They are a reseller of other companies tours. So any Viator offering will be be run by a different firm.
