Rome Christmas Eve
Looking for input on ideas/restaurants for Rome (or environs) Christmas eve. In particular, looking for special dinner (7 fishes) and cultural/fun activities for couple with teenager.
Also, need input on Santa Chiara and Albergo del Senato, Residenza Zanardelli hotels for same group.
Is Pompeii doable on a six-night trip to Rome?
THanks!

Friends of mine were in Rome last Xmas eve. Their hotel was able to get them tickets for midnight mass at St Peter's where they were in clear sight of the Pope. They are not Catholic but found it a very moving experience. I don't know what the other sources might be for tickets to the mass.

Only caveat is that when everyone was leaving St Peter's it was very very difficult to get a taxi, and it was also very cold out that night (below freezing.)

I stayed at the Santa Chiara last fall, liked it very much. I found the location very convenient, but am glad I chose a rear-facing room because the street in front can be noisy with motorcycles careening around the corner.
2-minute walk to the Pantheon, less than 10 minutes to Piazza Navona.
My (single) hotel room was small but very comfortable. Hanging space, but no drawer space. My bathroom was a decent size, though the shower stall itself was coffin-sized. Don't know if bathrooms vary in size.

I have a file on Rome; if you'd like to see it, email me.
good luck

As far as tickets for the St Peter's Mass, if you are Catholic ask your parish priest. They will write to the US Bishop's Office in Rome, and you pick up your tickets there the day before. This is the same procedure my family went through for papal audience tickets.
