Rome - budget hotel choices
Hi all
Any advice about the following hotels? I am waiting for availability and prices from them for a trip in May:
Eradelli
Coronet
Portoghesi
Smera ldo
I would like something cheap, good location and clean, with a bit of character and I would love a view (don't want much I know!). Thanks

Paula

The only one I know is the Portoghesi. If it is within your budget, I would say take it. It's a nice hotel in a great location, near Piazza Navona.

Just got a reply - Portoghesi fully booked - so....any thoughts on the others? Thanks Paula

Paula,
I know Erdarelli and I suggest you: cheap, simple and clean. It is in Via Due Macelli, very close to Piazza di Spagna.
Have a nice trip.

Have you seen the April issue of National Geographic Traveller? They have a cover story on dozen budget hotels in Rome for $135 (USD). If none of your first choices work out, then look to see what other accomadations they list.

Read positive comments on this forum about Smeraldo; I don't have personal experience.
Thanks Vincenzo - think I'll go with Erdarelli or Eradelli (conflicting posts!) - or maybe Smeraldo......Tina thanks - looked at the National Geo web site but I don't think I can get to the article about the 12 hotels. I doubt if I can get it here in South Africa, but I'll have a look in the shops. Thanks. Paula

Although it's been 25yrs ago while in college, I stayed in the Pensione Erdarelli in Rome. It was recommended by a TA in London and was clean and nice. Good breakfast included, bathrooms down the hall.
