Rome, Berlin, and Munich
 

For some reason people think this combination is odd but I am looking forward to it and your itinerary recommendations. I have traveled to Europe a few times (UK, AMS, Belgium) but this will the first to Germany and Italy.

Leaves me with quite a bit of time in Rome but a little short in Germany (already planning to go back so on these days I hope to hit the "best" places). I am wondering if any of you experts have recommendations for this trip, please let me know.

One reason is that you are doing a lot of bouncing around to spend too little time in Germany.

I suggest that on this visit you go to Rome and environs or go to Germany, but not both.

I don't understand the FCO-MUC-TXL portion?

Air Berlin and EasyJet both have direct flights from Rome to Berlin; why the stop/change in Munich?

I tend to agree with Ira and Dukey - in only 9 days, three cities is too much. if you must combine Rome and germany, pick Berlin or Munich - quite enough to do in either to fill 4 days ot so.

remember, every time you move, you lose most of a day. If you are flying into rome and out of Munich, I'd leave Berlin to another time.

Forgot to mention: doing this route because I am using miles to upgrade on United from the US to Munich (and not fly into FRA). Within EU, I wanted to stick with Lufthansa (*Alliance) and they actually were the cheapest for these hops (nothing more than paying tax between MUC and TXL) and only ~150 for MUC to FCO. Problem came in trying to do MUC -> FCO -> TXL, something around 750. Originally planned only Berlin and Rome but rather than having a tight connection on the last day (TXL-MUC-ORD) we decided to just spend a couple days in Munich. Rushed but better than missing cxn.

Also forgot to mention, if it makes a difference, we will be at the Hilton Cavelieri in Rome, the Hilton Berlin, and the Hilton Munich City (have to love spending points - HH DIA)

The Pergamon Museum in Berlin has two stellar attractions, a Greek temple frieze from Asia Minor and the Ishtar Gate from ancient Babylonia. You might also be interested in the Jewish Museum and the many fine art museums. Re Rome, there's a lot to see, and I'd suggest consulting a guide book (e. g. Fodor, Frommer, Rick Steeves, Michelin Green Guide, Blue Guide).

Ira & others are correct, lop off one end or the other Rome or Berlin. Berlin would be my choice. For the airfare you'll save, you should be able to stay a few more days.
