Rome-Assisi Bus Tour?
I've seen description of an all-day (approx 12 hours) round-trip tour from Rome to Assisi includng stops in Spoleto and Orvieto. Has anyone done this? Does it sound like too much for one day? it seemed like a good alternative to planning it myself, as I have only one day in which to do it
Grazie! |
Goodmorning, took a tour from Rome to Assisi, however did not make the stops at Spoleto or Orvieto. As I recall the bus left Rome about 9am, drove up to
Assisi, had tour of the Church of St. Francis, had lunch at the Windsor Savoia and that afternoon the rest of the city and the church of St.Clare. was run eithere by Amerx or Carrani. returned before 6 pm Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..PS had more than an excellant local guide in Assisi.... |
CN - Most of the main bus tour companies offer Assisi/Orvieto.
Here are some links: VASTOURS (Tour 19) http://www.romeguide.it/vastours/ APPIANLINE http://www.appianline.it/italy2004/fuldayro.htm CARRANI http://www.carrani.com/gb/viaggi/tour15.htm GREENLINE (Tour 13) http://www.romeguide.it/greenline/greenline_eng.htm Alternatively Assisi is under 2 hours by train from Rome. For timetables go to: www.trenitalia.com The train passes through Spoleto (- but not Orvieto) if you want to stop there en route. Hope this helps ... Steve |
I haven't done any of these tours, but recall reading a trip report of someone who took the Vastours tour and didn't like it very much. Here's the link if you want to check it out:

wow, I was thinking about this sort of daytrip myself, that old trip report is an eyeopener
it does seem like some of the dissatisfactions might apply to any bus tour though, maybe not just Vastour (too little time in Orvieto, stopping for shopping on the way back...) |
Nike, I agree, that's why I remember that report so clearly, because I might like to take a day trip too but don't want to go to cameo factories, have trouble understanding the guide, etc. On the other hand, the ones that don't sound cheesy seem to cost hundreds of euros.
