The new Wedsnesday looks fine.

With the Vatican museums now moved to Wednesday, you can easily do both St. Peters (w/ dome) and nearby Castel Sant'Angelo on Thursday.

Sounds good- you'll get a great overview of Rome with the morning tour and should have time to rest enough to enjoy the after hours Vatican tour- I'm envious that you are getting to do that. Have a great trip!

By the way, it really is easy to make a quick day or overnight trip to Orvieto- A first time trip to Rome can sometimes feel overwhelming and it can be fun to take a break. I would hate to go to Italy and not get a taste of small town Italy, too.

Also, since you'll be travelling in April, if you go by train to Orvieto, you may get to see the poppies blooming in the countryside.

Thanks saraho and everyone else!
