Does not have A.C but was NOT a problem at the end of Sept. The fans they provide are quite large and put out alot. The original poster is looking into Oct. which a.c should not seem like a huge concern.Summer though, i'd question it myself.

WOW!! Thanks guys! I've never had so many replies to a post since I've been a fan of Fodors. I have to say I am leaning towards an appt. rental (only b/c the Inn hasn't return any of my emails) but I have one question though. Our flight back home leaves very early on Sunday morning so we were thinking of sleeping at the Hilton on our last night but will be spending the full day and evening in Rome, ie will only go to the Hilton to crash, do they (rental agencies or owners) allow "late check out" OR can the owners accomodate us with our luggage, the way a hotel would do. I know I could go to the Hilton drop the bags there and back into Rome or leave them in a locker at the train station but I just don't want to bother with all this back and forth and waste any precious time . As for "my cooking" comment, I don't mind cooking, I really don't but I do it for a family of 5 all year round and well breakfast...unless you can suggest some really interesting spots ))

When we travel we always stay in apartments. We like the privacy and space. Not to mention the cheaper price. This way it gives you a little extra to spend on things you wouldn't have done otherwise due to the cost of a hotel. Like Patrick said, who says you have to cook? Really, the only meal we ate at the apartment was a good breakfast to get us through the morning. A few nights we may eat dinner there and relax but for the most part we ate out!

Oh yeah... we are renting an apartment in Rome...We leave in 3 days!!!!

This is the apartment where we are staying. The woman who rents it out has been incredibly helpful! Prices are great. I would suggest reading the testimonials as well. Good Luck.

It is true about no air conditioning at Palazzo Olivia. It is a historic building and they can't stick window units in it, nor is it possible to install most air without really screwing up everything. I mentioned above that wouldn't be a problem for 3littlepeas in October. We were there in June and it became quite hot in Rome. When you enter the building downstairs, we could swear it was air condtioned -- it was very cool. Old, very thick walls work wonders. Our apartment was never uncomfortable. If there had been air, I'm sure we would have turned it on a couple times, but didn't mind that we didn't have it. It was still relatively cool and like they've done there for years, you close the shutters in the day to keep out the heat and open them in the late afternoon to let in the breeze. We also had a tall floor fan (although we mainly used it to aim at the drying rack with our clothes to help dry them). The apartment has a small clothes washer, but no dryer.

The manager did mention that the top floor does get very warm, and they are looking into being able to air condition that, but below that top floor, it's not nearly the issue I thought it might be. Arrive in Rome in August during a 100 degree heat wave? Well, I'm not so sure then!
