Bob you need to give a price range to get meaningful answers.

While you are waiting for those to pour in, here is my (completed!) trip report from a few years ago; we stayed at the Albergo del Senato last time. This may be out of your desired price range but I would try to remain in the general area if possible. OR, if you do not mind staying just a bit further from the core of the historic center, take a look at the Senato's sister hotel closer to Termini station.

price range is uncertain but i should think 100E or less per nite

rhkkmk May 9th, 2010 06:16 AM

60-80 E would make me the most happy

That's a low budget for an apartment in Rome. That price might not get you much more than a studio with a sofa bed. Are you ok with a sofa bed? What location do you want? You might find better rates for March as April will be Easter vacations and high season.

I agree. Those prices seem very low. Rome can be quite expensive for accommodations, especially if you want to stay in the historic core.

You may find better prices near the Vatican which, for me, would not be the best location but would certainly be acceptable.

Here is an example of a B&B near the Vatican, that might fit your budget (70-90 euro) ; it seems to be well reviewed on TA, although most of the reviews are from reviewers with only this review in their history, so take care:

Here is a place in Monti for 80 euro per night; I like the area.

However, it is on the third floor (might be 4 levels up) , and has no lift:

Not less than 100 EU/night, but we liked the set-up of the Domus Julia. An apartment-style annex to the Hotel Julia. Right near the Spanish Steps, and close to the Trevi, Pantheon, etc. We had free breakfast in the adjacent Hotel Julia's nice breakfast room.

I agree your price target seems awfully low. Try the studio apartments listed by realrome.com for good value

rhkkmk May 9th, 2010 07:30 PM

i know it is low and that is why i asked for insider help, hoping that something fantastic might pop up...

i will try to be clear of easter....i think we would be in rome from about 3/31 to 4/3 or thereabouts....

remember we are from the asia forum and are used to cheap accomodations of 4* and above... of course that equates sometimes to a 3* in europe with its inflated standards...

looks like the pope will be having some empty rooms, maybe i could appeal to him??

My sister and I stayed in one of these studios a few years ago and enjoyed it. Not luxury at all, but well-located and perfectly serviceable.

In any case, have a great trip!

also seeking an hotel at the da vinci airport for one nite????

sarge56 May 10th, 2010 08:47 PM

rhkkmk,

We just returned from two weeks in Italy. We stayed at an apartment arranged through SleepInItaly. We loved it.

The apartment was not centrally-located, but really you can bus or walk anywhere. The apartment was five minutes walk over the bridge to Castel Sant'Angelo, 10-12 minutes walk to Vatican. We walked to Pantheon and it took us about 20 minutes. We also took the #62 bus to Piazza Venezia and the Forum/Colosseum area. That took about 10 mts. We also took the #116 to Pantheon for dinner one night. Both bus stops were within 3 minutes walk from the apartment.

The apartment was very modern and lovely. Fully furnished one bedroom, large by European standards. Fully equipped kitchen.

The link to the apartment is here:

We paid E755 for 6 nights. We thought it was a bargain. :)

>>>also seeking an hotel at the da vinci airport for one nite????<<<

There's not much at the airport (Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Courtyard), the area isn't that attractive and the hotels can be expensive. Stay in Rome, enjoy your last night and book a limo to the airport for your flight.

Hi Bob

We are looking at a similar time and price for next year also. I have these on my list:
http://www.palazzo-olivia.it/
The Berta flat is small but might just fit within budget.

There is a mini flat here that you can look at also:
http://lacasadiclelia.webs.com/
A Fodorite stayed in the larger flat and enjoyed it, maybe you can do a seach.

This is a B&B that isn't too bad price wise:

I can't recommend any of these of course but just thought you might be interested in some of my budget finds so far. Would love to know what you can find.

rhkkmk May 13th, 2010 07:43 AM

maudie....i like the looks of these places.....have you decided where you will stay?

pookymimi May 13th, 2010 07:56 AM

I'm bumping this as I'm also looking for an apartment and I don't know what it would be a good area to stay with my kids for 3 nights. Are 3 nights enough for Rome?

charnees May 13th, 2010 10:15 AM

A friend who went to Rome with his teen-aged daughter stayed at Hotel des Artistes, which is in the neighborhood near the Termini train station. It is a budget hotel and they liked it very much.
