Rome - anyone been to Stadio Flaminio? any convenient apartment suggestions
 

My rugby-mad menfolk have come up with the idea of going to the Italy v England match on February 14th in Rome, which is held at the stadio flaminio to the north of Rome.

I started off looking for hotels in the immediate area, but flights from Bristol to Rome over this weekend were prohibitively expensive, so I widened my dates, and the best-priced flights will give us a whole week in Rome, travelling wednesday to wednesday. you can imagine how upset I am at the thought of a week in Rome!

so rather than stay near the ground, I now think we should stay in central rome and
just travel out to the ground on the day.

anyone else done this sort of thing? anyone watched a match here? which is the best part of the ground? is it all seater? [I assume so]. what's the best way to get there? [and get back?

apartmentwise, we would be looking for a two-bedroomed apartment somewhere central. last time we stayed near the colosseum, so this time, I'm thinking campo de fiori/piazza navonna/pantheon area, and if we'rethere for a week, we definitely need a separate bedroom for 19 year old DS! [he complains about our snoring too much!]

There are apartments in the Flaminia area which is a nice residential district with good food shopping and convenience to the center - we looked at staying there recently and there were some good options (not saved on this computer)

thanks very much for the link to the vrbo site. we are undecided whether we want to stay somewhere convenient for the stadium or closer to the centre. one disadvantage of this site is that there are no maps of where the individual apartments are - so to get the precise details you have to e-mail the individual owners. but i do like the look of one or two of them.

really, there is too much choice.

You might think about the Pza del Popolo area - easy access to Flaminio, nearby attractions etc.

I think with most of the VRBO descriptions you can suss out pretty well where they are if you have a decent Rome map to consult - the Flaminio neighborhood is fairly small and skinny. But I agree, it would be helpful if the agency gave better info.

thanks for the links. i agree that the piazzo del popolo area would be a good one, and we never got to that part of Rome when we went last time so it woudl be nice to be somewhere new.

jjk - i agree with you too. I just think that providing a map on the website is better than the prospective renter having to do it themselves - from an owner's perspective i would want a site I was using to provide this service.

I've found us some flights that will cost about £130 each return [Newquay to Gatwick on airsouthwest, then easyjet to Rome], so we only have to drive 15 miles to get to the airport, hurray, and there are clearly hundreds of apartments to choose from, so the next job is to try to get the tickets.

anyone ever used www.seatwave.com ? they are a ticket exchange agency apparently.
