Rome & Venice Hotels

My family (including 2 teenaged boys) is traveling to Venice and Rome next month. We currently hold reservations at the San Clemente Palace(Venice) and the Raphael Hotel (Rome). Has anyone stayed at either hotel recently? What was your experience with sevice, cleanliness, room size?

You will find many comments about the Raphael here, and they are are all over the place. For one thing, it seems that there really is a broad spectrum of room size and quality. Naturally, the bad marks have come from people who got a tiny room, one that was not very elegant or charming or both.

And yet others rave about their stays there.

Best wishes,

Rex

Thanks to Elaine for her suggestion, I'll try rewording the title.

San Clemente is fabulous, large rooms, beautiful grounds. I liked the fact that it is on its own island, the mahogany boat rides in and out every day were fabulous. This place feels like an oasis away from the tourist hordes of Venice yet is close enough to be a 5 minute launch ride. Enjoy and write how it was.

Many thanks Cotes for your reassuring comments. Concerning the Raphael, I think we'll cancel there and try to stay at the Albergo Del Senato.
