Rome and Florence in 9 Days
My husband and I are going to Italy in the Spring, and need some help on where to stay, and how long to stay in each place. We would like to stay in a hotel or B&B that is less than 100 euro a night. Location is more important than how many stars the hotel/B&B boasts.

You might find that studio apartments would be a cheaper choice than a hotel, though there are some good recommendations for florence on another thread at the moment.
Try Slow-travel web-site for more ideas.
As to how long to stay in each place, I would personally opt for 6 in rome, 3 in florence, but a lot depends on whether you are doing open jaw flights, having to deal with jet lag, time of arrival, your interests, etc. etc.
good luck!

Only suggestion:
Rome 4 days, Florence 5 days, but from Florence take day trip to Siena, Lucca, Pisa or other town in Tuscany.
Accommodations in Florence check on:

IRA often cites B&B Peterson in Florence. I believe it's about 60eu. That would allow you to up your Rome budget a little. Take a look at Hotel Panda and Hotel Italia in Rome.
As for #nights, it really depends on whether you want to include Tuscany day trips from Florence. If not, 3 nights would probably suffice.

Thank you these are all great ideas. That is exactly what we were looking for. I think we are going to stay in Rome 4 nights and Florence 4 nights. I would love to take a day trip to a town in Tuscany, we would even love to go to real Italian winery. Any suggestions which place would make the best day trip?

Jan,
Check out www.accidentaltourist.com
We are taking a cooking class with them in the Tuscan countryside, but they also have biking and walking tours.
