I am trying to plan a trip to Italy visiting two key cities and hopefully some in between them - Rome and Florence..should I drive btw the two cities and what are must do's at both cities and any suggestions for accommodations? My wife and I prefer B&B option over the hotels..

Welcome to Fodors. You will find many, many previous threads about Rome and Florence. Use the search function or simply click on the "Italy" tag for you post and al Italy posts will appear, many of which include the information you are seeking about Rome and Florence.

The train is an easy, reasonable way to travel between the two cities. Schedules and prices here:

As noted above, there is already a wealth of information on this forum. If you search, you will find plenty of suggestions.

How long is your trip? When? What do your like to do? Museums? Churches? Food? Wine? Countryside vistas? Hiking? Biking? Give us something to go on and we can help.

Happy planning. It is a big part of the fun for many on this board.

I think any guidebook or even article on wikipedia would tell you what people do in these cities and would give you a beginning to the process of aligning your interests with what they offer, but I will tell you don't even dream about driving between these cities, much less in them. Florence and many other Italian cities have many areas where non-residents may not drive, and cameras ensure that you will get caught. It is expensive. Take the train between them. They are fast and frequent.

In terms of lodgings - it would really help ifyou tell us when you are going and what your budget is. and is is just you and your wife?
