Rome/Amalfi logistical question
I am looking at a flight from Portland, OR to Rome, going to Philadelphia in June. 1.5 hour layover in Philadelphia, arriving in Rome at 10:30 a.m.
Two questions: Is the 1.5 hour layover long enough? Assuming I can exist FCO around noon (going through customs, etc.), so I have enough time to take the train to Salerno and catch a ferry to Amalfi? Thanks in advance for your assistance! |
You would train from the airport to Rome Termini station (travel time 30 minutes and departs every 30 minutes). The train from Rome to Salerno will take 2 - 2 1/2 hours depending on type of train with about hourly departures. You might want to grab something to eat in Termini before heading south though.

I would be afraid of the 1.5 hour connection. Have you checked the ontime record of the incoming flight? (some are under 50%).

Thanks KY! So at a minimum I would need a ferry that departed Salerno after 3:30, to be safe. I'll see if I can find an approximate ferry schedule.
Good point NYT - do you know where I could find the ontime records of various flights? |
You'll almost certainly know of the bus alternative... the SITA line has a route that passes through the station forecourt at Salerno, on its way to Amalfi.
Just in case! Peter |
