Rome Airport to Train question
 

Our plane is scheduled to arrive at 12:30 pm into FCO/Rome. We want to go to Venice for 4 nights upon arrival and ideally would hope to make the 14:55 ES train to Venice. We will only have carryon bags, but need to go through customs,etc. Would it be faster to arrange a driver for pickup at FCO to take us to Termini train station or faster to take the Leonardo Express train to termini? Are the ES trains Rome to Venice nonstop? The trenitalia website is so confusing to me. Thanks for any advice or help.

You can see the trains stops on Trenitalia by clicking on the number on the left side(1-4). When the next screen appears you will see the actual train number. Click on that and it will list the stops and times.

A limo waiting for you should be faster unless you get caught in a traffic jam or it's rush hour. It's possible you would have to wait 30 minutes for a train and it's a bit of a walk from the drop-off at Termini to where you will need to catch your Rome/Venice train.

We will be arriving on a Sunday. Is traffic bad on Sunday afternoon? This is our first visit to Italy, so I have no clue. Thanks.

I see you have asked this question before. Perhaps you don't know that you can click on your own screen name to find all your previous posts. There are answers on your other threads.

I've used www.limoservicerome.com but their rates have increased this year. There are several slightly cheaper limo services - just enter it in the search function.

You have a pretty good chance of making the 14:55. You are aware that the 14:55 stops in Mestre, not San Lucia, and that you will have to change trains for Venice SL (1E, 10 min) from Mestre?


Customs is no problem, as you just exit through the "Nothing to Declare" door.

Passport Control will take :30 - :45 hr.

The Leonardo da Vinci shuttle train leaves at :05 and :35 past the hour, and takes 30 min to Rome TE (10E).

It will take <15 min to walk from the train to the head of the tracks.

In the worst case, your plane is late and you actually get off at 1:00.

You miss the :05 train for some reason and take the :35 train, arriving 15:05 and get to the tracks at 15:20.

You can take the 15:30, changing in Bologna, or have a snack and a glass of wine while relaxing a bit at the self service cafeteria while waiting for the 16:55 direct to Venice San Lucia.

In the best case, your plane lands on time and you get off by 12:45.

Passports take :30 hr

You take the 13:35 train to Rome, arriving at 14:05 and getting to the tracks at 14:20.

My big question is: if you are going to Venice, why are you flying into Rome? It is so far from Venice. You could fly into Milan, or Pisa or many other places rather than fly into southern Italy only to go straight north for many, many hours.

No big deal, perhaps you got a great airfare deal...but I think it is a strange itinerary at best.
