Rome airport to Sorrento
We are landing at Rome Fiumicino at 2 pm and want to get to Sorrento the same day by the most efficient means. Any advice? Air? Train? Bus?

The most efficient would be by car - either rental (if you don;t mind driving after an - I assume - long flight) or car service. But - the latter will be big$. And the former makes sense only if you want to keep the car for part of your trip.

How many of you are there?

How much luggage will you have and can you easily deal with it yourself.

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, renting a car seems to make the most sense. The train will require us to go from Rome FCO to Termini Station, to Naples and then a taxi to Positano ... too many transfers after a long flight. We got some information about a car service, but the cost is prohibitive (400 Euro). There are two of us and not much luggage, so we will rent a car at the airport ... mixed info. on the best car rental agency. Any suggestions?

The cheapest 3-day rental through Europcar will cost you $350. Four days is over $400. Add $$$ for gas and tolls. Where will you park the car in Positano?

If you think public trans involves too many transfers, consider what driving for more than 3 hours in a foreign country after a long flight will be like.

I'd take the train to Roma Termini (30 minutes) and catch either the 4:45 p.m. train to Naples (1.5 hours) or the 5:45 p.m. train to Naples (2 hours). Spend the money you saved on a car service direclty to your hotel in Positano (about 110-120 euros).

Hi gb and kl,

I suggest that the best way would be to take the express shuttle to Rome TE and the train to Naples.

From there, hire a limo (about 100E) to take you to Sorrento or Positano.

We were pleased with Limousine Service Sorrento (Renato Cuomo)

Also consider Francesco.
