Rome Airport to Civitavecchia

I've been reading the posts and am confused. Is there a train we can take from the Rome airport to the Civitavecchia port? And once we get to the train station in Civit, how far is it to the dock area? Need info soon - leaving Sunday 5/14. Thank You

You'll need to take the train, or other means, into Rome first...probably to Termini (although trains to Civitavecchia stop at the San Pietro station enroute).

The train takes about an hour and on the regional trains seat reservations are not required.

The entrance to the port area is about a 10-minute walk from the RR station, but your ship will undoubtedly be docked further on.

With luggage I would opt for a cab to the ship from the RR station.

I am sure the cruise line will offer transfers to the port at a price but if you are willing to do it on your own it will obviously be cheaper although not as direct a route.

Sorry, to be a little more clear:

Trains from Termini stop at the San Pietro (Vatican City) station en route to Civitavecchia.

You can probably buy both the ticket from the airport to Termini AND the ticket from Termini to Civitavecchhia at the airport station. If this is possible then do so to eliminate standing in lines or having to use the machines at Termini (beware of pickpockets in that station, too).

The cruise line will probably offer direct transfers from the airport to Civitavecchia which will cost more than taking the train.

From the airport take a train to Trastevere (5E and about 20 minutes). From Trastevere take the train to Civitavecchia (4E and 50-60 minutes). This is cheaper and is a bit faster than taking the Leonardo Express(9.50E and 30 minutes)to Termini and then catching a train to Civitavecchia (4-6E - 1 hour).

Forgot to say, if you want to look at the trains on www.trenitalia.com use Fiumicino aeroporto as your origination. I would avoid going to Termini, as it's a long walk from the Leonardo stop/drop-off to the other train departures.

Better advice from KyBourbon re the routing than my own.

Thank you all so much - I've printed the instructions to take with me. We're doing a trip on our own before the cruise so we're responsible for our own trip to the port. Fodorites are GREAT !

Ragtop, When are you cruising? I'm cruising Celebrity June 2nd for my honeymoon and found your information/post very useful.
