Rome Accomodations
Which area is the most convinient (and safe) to stay in? Close to the sights and restaurants. Which areas should we avoid?
|
We stayed at Hotel due Torri Roma near Piazza Navona and loved it. I've been looking for a possible trip next year, and found this apartment that looks wonderful!!!! http://www.italyperfect.com/rome/la_giulia.html

Another satisfied customer of the Due Torri. Great breakfast. Would return in a heartbeat. Loved the Piazza Navona/Pantheon area. We walked everywhere--both convenient and safe.

Hi Danimal,
I'm posting a link to a similar question that you have, this may help. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34456484 Some say don't stay by the termini for saftey reasons, I'm not in that camp. I think it's fine safety wise in fact I saw more american tourists in this area than Italians. It's not my first, second or third choice of where to stay but not for the reason of safety. Usually I stay right the Historic center - Navona, Campo Dei Fiori, Pantheon area however when we missed our flight a few weeks ago we needed to stay by the termini it felt very safe and it was very convient. Other areas to consider but a little further out are Trastevere which is filled with restaurants and the Prati close to St Peters and the Vatican. Good luck, Eileen |
question for you uhoh busted,
Looked at your link to the apartment - do you know anyone who has stayed there? I'm going in February and am booked for the first time at a hotel but I do prefer apartments and I like the area ect. of this one. Thanks for any info. Eileen |
I do not like the Termini area. For me, the area around Pantheon square is my favorite and then Piazza Navona. Also like the Via Veneto.

Near the Piazza Novana check into Rezidenza Canali Di Coronari.http://www.romeby.com/coronari

Hi,
Saw the post about www.italyperfect.com and thought I would put my two cents in. My husband and I stayed in La Giulia last summer and found everything to be just as the website said it would be. It was very accomodating with everything nearby in the neighborhood. Very comfortable and wonderful people to deal with; can't wait to return next summer! |
Noticing here danimal's header says "Rome Accommodations" but the real question is about Areas not accommodation - so I'm confused.
Anyway... iltm3, Thanks for posting about your stay at La Giulia. I did contact Lisa and she replied promptly, however the apartment is booked for my stay in Feb. One of my questions to her was about the small water heater listed on the discription and she was quite honest in saying I'd only get about 3 full min of hot water in the shower brrrrrr! What's your opinion on the shower/hot water situation? I'd like to consider this for a future trip - I'm always looking for something new to try. I like the price and area of this one. Thanks much, Eileen |
Thanks for the advice!

We have stayed many times at Hotel Spring House and Hotel Alimandi, both of which are 1 block and 1/2 block from the entrance to the Vatican. They are also only about a half a block from the Metro. The Alimandi gained attention from Rick Stueves so they fill early. We think the location is great and the prices are economical. Both have been recently remodeled.

I cannot find a hotel "La giulia" there is one by the name of "hotel la giuliana" Is this the same one?
Also, does anyone have a website for Hotel due Torri Roma ? |
wow - good to hear some actual input about La Giulia -- I'm keeping it saved in my Italy Favorites. Hope it is available when we want to use it. I was pretty well certain it was a good choice -- the site that "got me there" is trusted and I have familiarity with the area.

I think the Pantheon area is the best area overall. It's convenient to almost everything. I've also stayed in the Spanish Steps area but found the area around the Pantheon more suitable. We were pleased with the Hotel Santa Chiara.

I appreciated Lisa at
www.italyperfect.com be so frank about the hot water situation in advance of my trip so there were no unpleasant surprises. I didn't mind it at all, I just took quick showers! It was better then some apartments that have only a bathtub and one of those sprayers. We enjoyed our stay immensely at La Giulia and didn't mind the limited amount of hot water since we were so excited to have our own cute apartment to come home to and loved being able to get to know this wonderful part of Rome, so close to Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Campo dei Fiori and just across the river from Trastevere. Also, Danimal, just wanted to clarify; it is La Giulia apartment and you can find out everything you want to know at www.italyperfect.com. Lisa is a delight to work with. |
