Rome accommodations
 

We are travelling to Rome in late april and would like recommendations of hotels or B&Bs that are in good locations and are not going to break the bank. We will be staying for 3 nights. Thanks.

I continue to enjoy La Residenza, just off the northern part of Via Veneto and a short walk to the Spanish Steps. It's a very nice hotel that hasn't totally gone out of sight in price.

Try doing a search in the Europe forum for 'hotels in rome', 'rome hotels','places to stay in rome'. I've been doing that for the last few weeks and have found a wealth of info for budget and upscale places to stay in Rome.

What's your budget? I stayed at Hotel Julia last year and it was about 75Euro for a single en suite. They have 2 hotels

Hotel In Parione is in the Campo de Fiori area and reasonably priced. We went in September - I can't remember how much we paid, but we're fairly budget travelers.

Hotel Brasil across from the British embassy. Three stars for a reasonable price.

I stayed at the Hotel Urbis in Rome, March of 2003 and at that time it was around $30 a night.. you can see it from the inside of Termini train station, very, very convenient. I did have a room with no bathroom, did not have a problem with that. The room was big, clean and so was the bathroom. Check www.tripadvisor.com for comments. I did book this thru www.venere.com.

5 of us had two rooms there for 3 nights. The triple had 3 single beds, a good bathroom w/nice tub and shower combo (tub was great after walking our feet off in Rome!), good air system, lots of storage space, and a very sound-proof window -- important since our room was on the busy Via Cavour side.

The double had a double bed and nice bath w/shower only. It overlooked the interior courtyard.

Via Cavour is busy and not that attractive of a street, but we liked the location just a few minutes walk to the Forum. We walked everywhere from there except the Vatican - an easy bus ride. The little trattoria next to the B&B and the pizzaria down the street were favorites of ours.

The owners are an American and her Italian/French/Lebanese husband. They were both exceedingly helpful and very nice. The B&B is on the third floor of an old building, but it is furnished in a tasteful & soothing style. The owners are not there 24 hours but are available by phone 24 hours.

Breakfast is brought to your room & was quite delicious - continental, of course, but with nice touches.

Check www.venere.com We're going in late March and we're staying at Al Pantheon B & B con Thomas Mann, it's a 2* next to the Pantheon at a good price. I booked 3 nights on venere and then emailed them directly as we're returning to rome later and Venere showed they were full. Turns out they had rooms available and gave us a discount for booking direct (about 10E less/night). They own some other properties in the Novanno/Pantheon area. www.casaromana.it

Sid - we enjoyed our stay there. It is quite small. There is a bakery right next door, so hubby would go down and get b'fast for us. We did not eat b'fast at Hotel Smeraldo (sister hotel). The stairs are quite tight (but I think there is an elevator). No real views, but there is a rooftop terrace that is cozy. And you just can't beat the location. We walked everywhere - never took public transport. They'll arrange a driver for a ride back to the airport if you need it.
