Rome
I have just decided to go to Rome next week. I'll be there for a week and am trying to decide everything: where to stay, what to do, the possibility of visiting one other city. I'd like to go to Venice or Naples. Is this doable? Any site recommendations?

Thanks for any help!
Jameika

There are a host of things to do in Rome--the Coloseum, Capitoline Museum, St. Peters, Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museum, shopping on Via Condotti, etc. If you go to Venice by train you will lose almost a day going and a day coming back if flying out of Rome. Why not go to Florence? Marilyn

Hi:
I was in Italy last March for 17 days. My friend and I took an overnight flight landing in the am in Rome and then hoped on a train for Venice. We got to Venice that night and we absolutely loved Venice but it's not that handy to Rome. It really took two full days of boring train to get to Venice and back. I'd suggest flying to Venice and skipping Rome.
I painted in Rome for 10 days and I loved the campi di fiori market and of course the ruins and colliseum and the art in the Vatican. I'd suggest staying near campi di fiori or Piazza Navona. Both are close together and I could walk everywhere except to the train station and a city bus was fine and direct.

Spent a wonderful week in Rome in Sept. Stayed at the Albergo Cesari (it is on the web). Great location, small, in a pedestrian only area, clean, air conditioned, 3 stars, good breakfast. It is three blocks from the Trevi Fountain, 4 blocks from Piazza Navonna, and walking distance to many other must see sights in Rome. Have fun.

At the risk of repeating myself, do not miss the Villa Borghese Museum and Gardens. Need advance reservations to get in, but hotel concierge can call and make that for you. The museum is well worth your time. Afterwards, you could take a stroll down the Via Venento. have fun-Rome is wonderful!
