Could you give me ideas for good places for eating in Rome and recomendation for meals?

There are soooooooo many wonderful places to eat in Rome that I don't think that you will have a problem finding anything. There are many many threads on this board-some are for places that are very expensive so if you tell us where you are staying and your budget we will be happy to suggest some of our favs.

To get some more replies, you should tell us a bit more about how much you can afford for your meals, whether you are looking for a quick bite to eat in a Trattoria or whether you want a 3 star gourmet experience.

Just putting 'Rome' as your heading may not attract too many replies. Why don't you start again and put a full sentence in your heading so that people who can help will notice it straight away.

This is like asking where should I eat in New York City. First, you can search this site for Rome food recommendations. Second, just SOME info about what you are looking to try in Rome, what your budget is, where you are staying, etc., would be helpful.

It's hard to go wrong in Rome. Assuming you want fairly casuale and inexpesnive/moderate you can pick anyplace - except

No places with menus in 14 languages
No places wiht picture menus
No places exactly opposite a major tourist attraction
Only places that look busy (an empty restaurant in Rome is BAD - unless you're eating very early)

We have never had a bad meal there - even a casuale sandwich place or pizza joint.

I would suggest as you walk around Rome during your visit there that you keep an eye out for restaurants, trattorias etc., and when you see one that appeals to you note what type of customers they have such as basically pretty much all tourist versus a lot of Italians. Often even the aromas for the place can be a good indication if you would enjoy the food. And if you are there during the seasons when people are eating at the tables at the outside cafes that can be a great help also. And mytraveler's comments are ones I sure agree with. An eating establishment that is attractive to you say at lunch time is a good place to go into and make reservations for that night or the next evening. And often when in shops if you ask for recommendations you will find that that can be a good resource.

The problem with restaurant recs is that most days at mealtimes you are off seeing sights and are nowhere near any of the places you read about. Follow the guidelines above, and under NO CIRCUMSTANCES fall for places with "tourist menus".

Thanks for your advises. Our family prefer to discover native tratorias or 2-3 star restourants,we would like to touch a real Italian without tourist lustre
