Rome

Ill be arriving Rome this Sunday morning and leaving on Friday. Will be here to watch the Champions League final... For first 2 nites ill be staying at Hotel Laurentia and my next 3 nites ill be staying at Hotel Medici. I have few questions to ask with budget in mind..

1. Upon arriving Rome airport, is the train the best mode of transport as the Termini Station is bout .5km from Hotel Laurentia...Is it possible and convenient to walk from Termini Station to Laurential Hotel (near San Larenzo) ?

2. On d 3rd day, i need to change Hotel from Laurentia to Medici...What is the cheapest mode of transport available besides the obvious taxi. As i have Championship tickets, public transport will be free..Is metro convenient??

3. Any itinery or suggestions for me to spend my 5 days in Rome...I can only think of is spending half a day at Vatican, 1 full day at Colosseum, Palatine and the nearby historical sites, may be 1 full day shopping at Spannish steps and nearby surrounding. That leaves me 2 days extra which i dunno what to do...

4. Any fresh market worth going in Rome and where is the best place to shop for cheap goods like leather shoes, bags??

Thk u very much for those who response to my questions.

Have you consulted a good guidebook, like Fodor's or Frommer's? You'll get answers to some of your questions there, especially parts 3 and 4.

For part 3, I'd draw up an itinerary after guidebook study, then post your itinerary for comments and suggestions. Don't neglect possible side trips, like Tivoli or Ostia Antica, either.

You might get the best information to your first two questions by emailing the places where you're staying. They'll probably be of the most help.

Hi David -

Yes - train is best from FCO. The hotel website says it's 1km/10 mins walk from Roma Termini.

A short cut when you arrive at Roma Termini would be to:

- take Sottopassagio A. Pettinelli tunnel OR
- exit on the Via Giovanni Giolitti side and take the Via Santa Bibiana tunnel under the railway lines.

Here's the map:

For your hotel transfer it would be about a 2km walk. Your hotel lists bus options:

Hope this helps ...
